Originally by: Sheriff Jones Calling people noob, while annoying as hell to me to begin with, doesn't really fit EVE.
I suggest rookies.
I like this idea ... we don't have quests we have missions ... we don't have guilds we have corps ... we don't have noobs we have rookies.
Yep works for me. ---

I'm reminded of a line from a charming little RPG called HoL, regarding their regulation of actions taken by characters. "Everything you do in HoL is divided up into turns. Yeah, turns! We coulda called them 'Action Time Units' or some other fancy ****, but they'd just get called turns anyways."

That's actually better then rookie, it doesn't imply anything on the skill level of the meat
If new players are "fresh meat" then what the hell are Vet's. "Internally processed, nutritionally-drained Mature Beef Steak Output"?
I personally like the term for "vets" to be "Effluent". as in -
"Effluent in the man-made sense is generally considered to be water pollution, such as the outflow from a sewage treatment facility or the wastewater discharge from industrial facilities. An effluent sump pump, for instance, pumps waste from toilets installed below a main sewage line."

I prefer "rookie". If it's good enough for new Judges (cf "Dredd", not "High Court) it's good enough for new pod pilots.
Remember the most basic pod pilot with 1 sp is already an elite member of society, and not some stinkin' noob!

EVE is special
Yes, EVE is special, and a lot of the players are special, short bus special.
I agree that 'noob' is synonamous with insulting someone, but the kind of people who do that wont be persuaded round, as they like the 'in your face im better than you' feeling hiding behind an internet connection can give them.
I like rookies, as it ties in with the Rookie Ships already in game.

Why is noob considered insulting? I've never taken it that way, it's just a shorter form for newbie. Sure, you might use it in an insulting manner like "you're such a noob." But I find myself saying "we were all noobs once" all the time in the various games I've played over the years. That's not insulting.
Honestly, this is not a big deal.

The "noob is insult" thing was the least of the issue, this was lost there. It's the immersion, to better EVE, to make EVE stand out more(even if a fracture) etc.
Noob doesn't fit EVE, rookie etc do.

I, for one, say "rookie" in Eve.
But then, I'm not the type that says "noob" in other games, anyway.
