The difference being there's nothing CCP can do about it. as for why this time and not before, dunno probably the stupid random selection process preventing people that really want in from competing last time all you had to do to enter was apply asap this time even if you applied instantly the people out to make a quick buck had an equal shot at making it in + no risk of losing ISK on it + a 2 week signup period to decide

And even if that is the only difference, i kind of wish it stayed that way. The problem now is that no matter how CCP decide the sign up procedure in the future tournaments, unless they prohibit this trend (which they won't and shouldn't, because it goes against EVE's sandbox foundation), then it's going to be a common sight every year from now on. Now that it is public knowledge, even more people will catch on and attempt it next year. Although i'm all for people being creative in EVE and earning isk in imaginative ways, because that's what makes the game great, i feel it's a big shame to see the tournament bstrdized in this manner.
Tyrrax Thorrk Amarr Guiding Hand Social Club Dystopia Alliance	Posted - 2009.08.03 16:55:00 - [14] i don't really think it's a big problem, very few alliances are interested enough in the tournament to even consider paying someone for access to their slot, competing under someone else's name is also a turnoff for patriotic teams coming from real alliances (and not just 1 corp + a few friends competing like in our case).. having all your team members switch corps is also a big turnoff, as are the major trust issues (sure you can use chribba to encourage honesty, but what if you actually win and the executor gets the prizes ? , nobody's going to put up that much collateral, so you'd pretty much have to get executor + enough alt corps in to keep it..) plus you have the issues of fake bidding in the sell auctions etc etc i'd be kinda surprised if more than 1 or 2 alliances successfully sold a slot this year
