So there seems to be a lot of concern that the entry list not representative of the "best of the best". Looking at who got in makes it clear whoever wins really can't claim to the the best PvPers of Eve. Too many significant alliances seem missing.
So my idea, a player organized and run "come one and all" PvP tourny run by the players. Take anyone that will put up the entry fee, take as long as it takes run a similar advancement ladder to the CCP tournament. Use the same rules and find out who really is the top dogs of Yarrr! We pay the prize pool from the entry fees down to say place 5.
We'd need one of the big alliances to promise to set aside a "ring" somewhere in 0.0 and we'd need to select some mutually agreed to referees. I bet we can come up with independent coverage from volunteers to share the matches.
Sure, we can't come up with one off BPOs but whoever won this would have REAL bragging rights. And in Eve that may be worth way more.
Any takers? We'd be out in the first two matches I bet, but I'll stake another 2 billion to start things off!
So the rules would be:
1. Same ship point spread and match lengths as the CCP tournament. 2. Same initial two match elimination used in the last tournament. 3. Top 10 go on to a 1:1 ladder to the final victor. 4. Entry fees paid as a prize pool to the top 5 finishers. 5. Entries would be open to any alliance that has 2 billion and a taste for glory.
So, good idea? If CCP really wanted to show they cared they'd maybe even lets some GMs volunteer to help reduce shenanigans.

Well when you make such a detailed and well thought out case like that I see where I was daff to suggest it.

Tried something similar here. Didn't get any interest sadly.

Edited by: violator2k5 on 21/07/2009 03:06:38 in all honesty it could work but i would change the stage point venue and lower the entry fee a little so the smaller alliances have a chance at entering.
possibly setting the actual matches up on the sisi server so the players themselves dont take such a big hit in the wallet and confining it to only T1/T2/T3 ships while at the same time keeping the entry fee's paid on tranq. My reasoning for this is that there are far to many who have yet to set foot in 0.0 and lets face it... which alliance could you suggest that wouldnt take the opportunity to dd the match for giggles or easy kills.
even more so this could eventually be set into some sort of ladder system too if someone wanted to spend the time coding a site for it :) clanbase is a good example of a ladder site for those of you who have never seen one before.
10 V 10's 5 v 5's 1 v 1's
its all possible with the right motivation

Seriously, I don't expect CCP to address the complaints and I think Eve is more about what the players choose to do in the sandbox than what CCP hands you on a platter. So I stand by my idea.

It will never work since it would mean players would have to organize. This means players will try to cheat, to steal, to gank, to destroy the event. That's why it won't work. Since we like destroying stuff.
What would the prize be? ISK? No one is interested in that, it will never spark enough interest. Organizing it would be really difficult. Who would be referee? What makes you think the winner will gain fame?
This is why I think it will never work. Now you tell me why you think it will work.

This is kinda no-no.

what makes it a no-no? ccp have not stated people cant do this. it is a little limited yea cos players would of had to of played the game since before the last updated the skill set on sisi.
i cant see why your discouraging the prize by saying no one is interested in isk cos thats just not true. The amount of scamers in game plus people wanting to buy gtc's and of course those who just want it to buy more toys says otherwise.

It's not like that. CCP doesn't approve of this, paying on TQ for something that happens on Sisi.

i assure you ccp wouldn't give a flying duck about people getting paid prizes on TQ for a tournament on sisi, would be kinda lame tho since there's no risk or loss there..
On the other hand on TQ there is no large alliance that'd be trusted with something like this (Morsus Mihi is probly the closest) you'd have to get Chribba involved to hold the prize money etc and i dunno, enforcing rules would be kinda difficult what with how crappy ship scanners and cargo scanners are..
And of course you'd just get random roaming gangs that'd come over and crush the "large alliance's" security force and competitors ;P

If you want to set aside a system you should probably hold that 0.0 space yourself.
While the whole idea is stupid in itself, paying an entry fee and giving out prizes on TQ, while holding the tournament itself on Singularity is the only non-stupid suggestion here.
