So I'm taking my lunchbreak at work browsing the forums, and I see a topic Audri-bitomi school girl and I'm like wtf and I look inside...
Yah...giant pic of a nude girl, awesome sauce! with 2 links or something!
So whats the story with these, some sort of keylogger or advertisement thing similar to the WoW forums?
Thankfully I was able to close the window before anyone saw me

I replied and asked whether they were hybrids or autocannons....I thought it appropriate to inquire as I never saw modules like that in-game.

I am at work, clicked on the forum post, saw a picture and two links and immediately closed the page.
Am I at risk of anything if I didn't click either of the links?
Thanks, last thing I want to do is lose my EVE account.

They're currently using a variation of the name. There was a moment ago still a live thread on C&P, poster's name was CAPSLOCKBROKEs. They added a lower-case s at the end. They've been spamming the forums with this for a couple of days now, though today is the first time they've directly linked the image in the thread, usually it's just links for stupid people to click on. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

Ohhh I see, they have a program that creates a name based on the people who click on there post, then re-spams it using that name. The only risk is if you click on the links that could be a keylogger? This about correct?

Probably. Someone posted in one of the threads earlier that if you went to the link they told you something about you needing the current version of the player to view the clips, which they'd supply you. Of course whatever you install, if it was a player at all, would be chock full of spyware, trojans, and other assorted mischief. I wouldn't even bother clicking the link personally. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

Ok thanks Gavin. Back in my WOW days, keyloggers were a very common thing, but we used to read the post and laugh at the misspelled English knowing that as long as we didn't click the link we were fine. With the ability to link a Picture to EVE websites, and people's comments here they had me spooked that maybe they could give me a keylogger without me even clicking on anything.
Worst of all I am at work and I would be in even worse trouble if I somehow got a virus here than at home. Losing your EVE account is one thing. Losing your job is a whole nother.

They just used tags to link an image; it's easy to do but not allowed by the forum rules here. The usual bulletin board codes are similar to HTML tags. I don't think they can even find out people who look at the thread, more likely they're just cruising the forums looking for names that catch your eye. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

This morning I was thinking "I'll log on my main to see what's up and then hop over to my alt to mission."
I go to log on and said "Invalid user name or password" (user name is saved). I go wtf and retype it. Says it again, says it a third time. By now I'm going "FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF" and go to the forums to post about it, my firefox saved my account names and PWs, but since I have 2 accounts saved for this site, I have to type the first letter to get the account name and PW. And noticed it was in capital.
I look and.. sure enough, caps lock was on. Never knew eve passwords were case-sensitive. ________________________________________________

Hi forum guys,
are you sure you have to click something on that page before your machine gets infected?
I'm waiting for the first computer security whizz to pop in and explain how it uses an exploit in some common web stuff (firefox, flash, whatever) and installs crap without anyone noticing.
Eagerly awaiting the mass-hysteria,
Neo

So the fact that I was spamming the enter key to accept the download they were prompting me with means my cpu may have contracted a virus?

I thought trial accounts were blocked from using the forums for awhile now to put a stop to the mass isk seller spams so im rather surprised that that particular bot got through. Id like to hear from CCP on this matter to be honest. On an unrelated note, Kneel before Zod! |

A vulnerability was announced by Microsoft in the rendering of jpegs which meant just viewing them, in a website or otherwise, could allow your computer to contract a virus...
...in 2004. So basically if you didn't click on the link and you've updated your computer anytime in the last 5 years, you'll be OK. If you haven't updated your computer in the last 5 years, you deserve that your computer asplode from virus related symptoms.
