The Orca is a great ship with many useful features but after several corpmining-ops I have to say that I'm not satisfied with the corps-hangar feature of the Orca. First of all the idea of the programmers to copy the identical layout of the corps-hangar folders from the station is nonsense. I understand that it saved considerable efforts of the programmers to copy the module. In daily use however it's frustrating. When mining in a group I prefer to keep the mined ore of the members separate if we dont mine for the corp. This can be done easily by using the different corp-hangars. The first drawback is the capacity. The Orca has 90.000 m¦ cargospace but the corp-hangars can hold only a total of 40.000 m¦. Why is that ? The members have access to the different corp-hangars in the same way as the settings for the corp-hangars of the stations. If they are close enough to the Orca they dont have to use a container but can put the ore directly into the hangar. If I decide to keep some of the station hangar without of member-access, the appropriate hangars in the Orca are also locked. My Idea for the hangar of the Orca would be system with several tabs, that can be namened and with a maximum capacity of the whole hangar. This would make the hangar layout of the Orca more useful.

Signed. I recently obtained an Orca for use during Ninja Salvaging group ops, and the NPC alt piloting it had troubles with the buggy implementation of the corp hangar. Mainly: about 1/5 of the loot was hidden from my access, and the ship had to be repackaged to recover it. So I put him in a one-man alt which fixed the problem on his end.
I've got no real beef with the capacity of the Orca for my intended use, but the corp hangar system has got to go. ---- Suddenly Ninjas Blog: My Loot, Your Tears

The Pilot of the Ship can access all hangers onboard no matter of there corp roles, further more stuff can still go into a hanger that you dont have access to, you just cant take it back out again, this is where comunication and organisation comes in handy.
Personaly I think we can lookforaward to the Orca being looked at again soon it was mentioned that with the black ops gettign its fule bay the Orca might just pick up an Ore Bay at some point.

The Orca's Corp Hangar is limited to 40,000 for the same reason the Ship Maintenance Bay is limited to 400,000 m3. A battleship takes betweem 475 and 500,000 m3 assembled (varies by model somewhat). A battleship takes 50,000 m3 packaged.
2 Command ships/Battlecruisers cannot be fit into the Orca simultaneously, taking over 250k -275k m3 each roughly.
2 Hulks/Covetors can be stowed in the maintenance bay, with no room leftover.
I do however agree with the mechanic behind the corp hangar. It is a very very annoying 'feature'. I'd much rather just have a specialised bay that could be remote accessed that had only one compartment than the corp hangar mess. Even when it works right, it still doesn't work.
If you have a large number of items (i.e. after a corp mission salvage drop off), it takes an annoying amount of time - even when docked - to find all of it sometimes even when it's all in the same hangar sometimes you have to refresh it to see all of it a couple of times.
On an up note. the Orca (and Rorqual) are getting larger specialised ore hangars of 50K(and 250K), reinforcing the point that CCP's vision of the Orca is a mining command ship, not a Ghetto Freighter or High-Sec Carrier Wannabe.

Hmm? Where did you find this? I had not heard anything this detailed. Though if they do go through with this, I hope they finally DO implement, as you say, a ghetto freigther or high-sec carrier wannabe since there is a strong desire for both this ship classes and the ocra is currently being shoehorned into those roles.

Have your miners use secure containers, and have them put container name as their character name, then you just drag the containers from corp hangar to your ship hangar. Voila, for a little more effort you can now store 125k instead of 40k for members. It does require you to either drop it to their hangars in station or do a direct trade/contract.

[Where did you get this info...?] You should play on test every now and then. Singularity is a wealth of information on upcoming patches.
[Secure cans etc etc...] I usually tell the miners to transfer directly into a specific hangar on the orca, once it's opened, the lag is minimal, it's when you're looking for something after, say, moving an entire tower setup that it gets messy. You can easily transfer anything from the corp hanger to the main hold on the fly, although the first time I did it, I nearly had to change my pants, because the Orca's HP on all three levels went to 0%... now THAT is something I really wish they would fix.
The Orca's great, as long as you remember that it is not intended to be a FARP, but just a great big mining fleet command ship. Heedless to say it can perform the role of FARP in high sec about half as well as a carrier, if you ignore the no fighters, no remote logistics, etc.

I'm going to speak up on the other side of this one. I really like that the Orca is a versitile ship as it's currently designed. A large ore bay would resitrict it to use only in mining and industrial roles.
We currently use an Orca as a mobile, deep 0.0 and wormhole space exploration base. An orca can comfortably carry all of the ammo and fittings a small fleet needs, provide fittings and drone replacements, and carry all the loot. We can even bring a couple spare ships along. It can do all of this, is small enough to use stargates, and can fit a cloak.
The Orca - not just for miners anymore!

The Ore Bay as it currently stands on test does NOT replace the existing cargohold, nor is it affected by cargo opties/expanded cargoholds. It is simply an additional special bay designed to enhance its intended role while not reducing its existing capabilities in any way.

aye. This falls under Trofi's dev blong (too lazy to link), where he said something about fuel bays for black ops and allowing them to possibly author other specialised holds on ships while preventing them from becoming super uber deep space haulers of doom.

Waiting for the OSX patch then yeah, I should probably do exactly that.
