Got a new pc. Loaded Eve and patched successfully but when i log in and select character then im in the station for between 2-20 seconds then the pc Freezes.
I have a P4 3ghx 1gig ram and the above grpahic card. I have downloaded the latest patch, windows update and directx 9.0c and still it freezes.
Also tried an earlier ati driver catalyst 4.2 and still froze.
In fact if a eve player can help me out i will give them 10mill isk as a reward

Mmmmm....that's a tough one. When I first got my PC with an ATI 9700pro vid card all my 3D games would quit to the desktop within 2-20 seconds. Turns out I have really bad RAM. I ran MEMtest and found thousands of errors. So I bought RAM from Crucial.com, which had no errors and then life was good and I lived happily ever after.
Not sure if that's your problem or not since conditions are a little different. But downloading and running MEMtest may not be a bad idea.
Sorry I can't think of anything more helpful. --------- Kitten Hearder Evolution made my sig Less Entertaining than your's. |

Try and set AGP speed to 4x and disable fastwrite in both BIOS and driver. If this works then you have some hardware issues.

I have to run my graphics in 4x AGP mode on my laptop or I get the wrong colours and graphics corruption. It has an ATi 9600m
However I would suggest also checking for virus's, enabling a firewall & patching windows XP with all the service packs & fixes.
Then apply all the newest drivers for sound, video and motherboard.
Check for airflow around the case & for GPU overheating. (there have been a few posts on here about the stock cooler on the graphics card failing to cool enough). Best quick fix is to remove the blanking plate below the GCard to allow air to flow in or out of that slot & over the GCard.

sound like it's a problem with the card or the instalation of the card....
try re-installing it.. and use the latest version of both Cataltyst and Direct X
if you have Cataylst installed you shouldbe able to set the card up either through the Cataylst controll center or through the advanced settings section of the proeties window..

Don't forget the basics... motherboard drivers, an all night ram testing session with memtest, reset your bios to the defaults, try using another power supply, etc. If you have a spare hard disk it is worth it to try a bare and fresh install of windows and 1 or 2 games to see if the problem happens again. And don't neglect searching the web, hardware tech support resources, usenet newsgroups, etc.
It seems to me that all this freezing may be related to something low-level in your PC, but even spyware has been known to cause similar problems.

I understand completely... my mobo has developed an ugly problem with its AGP port, and will need to be replaced soon. Not since the early 80's have I had to replace one of my PC's mobos, so I guess I was overdue.

Edited by: Saruman on 14/10/2004 09:36:45 Hi Again.
Ok im still getting kicked but its normally after a couple of hours game play. This happens on all the 3 games ive installed - Eve, EQ2 (beta) and Evil Genius.
The thing is i have a new PC: P4 3ghz 1gig ram and radeon 9800 pro 256mb graphic card. And im seriously going off ATI now.
I sometimes get an error message but im at work so i cant tell you what it says - will post it later
