Okay, after yet another level 4 mission with about 749 different wrecks to salvage scattered over about eighty kilometers, my boredom and frustration reached their limit. I was wishing there would be a less tedious way to loot and salvage a huge field of wrecks than a catalyst with 4 tractors, 4 salvagers, a MWD, and 3 cargo expanders. That lead to this idea.
Basically, I'd like to see a dedicated salvaging/looting ship class. This ship would be a tech II ship, probably based on the utility cruiser hulls, with a very large cargo hold (perhaps 1500m3 before expanders), a goodly-sized drone bay, and the ability to fit a new module: the tractor field. This module would act like a tractor beam on all same-corp wrecks within 20km, simultaenously. The ship's other ability would involve salvaging drones as mentioned in other threads, but it would receive a bonus to the number controlled or their efficiency. These drones would also automatically attempt to salvage any same-corp wrecks within the tractor field.
In all, I feel such a ship would significantly reduce the tedium of looting and salvaging a massive field of wrecks, and anything that makes the game more enjoyable is a win in my book. -Wrayeth n00b Extraordinaire "Look, pa! I just contributed absolutely nothing to this thread!" |

That could work well. They have mining ships, a salvage boat makes sense. /signed

No. Again.
Seriously, EVE doesn't need a dedicated salvage ship of any kind.
Missioning needs to be LESS profitable (at least in highsec), and introducing a dedicated salvage ship that would speed up the salvage of said missions would only increase the pilot's ISK/hour potential. In short, as a mission runner myself, anything that helps me make MORE ISK in a shorter period of time in highsec is a BAD idea. |

No to the dedicated ship class. And salvage drones were the myth that almost happened.
But I do like the idea of a tractor field generator. It'd have to have limitations vs the standard tractor beams. Shorter range, slower tractor speed etc to compensate for the all wrecks magnet effect.

This. Nothing to ad here. Missions need to b e nerfed. One glory day CCP will have the balls to do it.

The Legion is great for salvaging.

Everyone who've posted this topic (yes, use eve-search and find them all) have misunderstood one simple thing!
A dedicated salvage-ship will not earn you more money!
If it becomes easier for YOU to salvage, it also becomes easier for EVERYONE else! That means more people will salvage/loot, and thus more salvage components and minerals will enter the market. As no new demand has been created, what will happen? Prices will fall!
Understand this: In EVE, you're being compensated for time spent. If something gets changed so less time is spent, more players will do it, and the price of the rewards will drop (decided by market mechanics).
Example: Say 50% of all mission runners salvage their wrecks. If they all started doing it, what would happen to salvage component prices? It doesn't take a rocket scientist....
Salvaging/looting is absolutely fine as it is, and you can fit a Battlecruiser to be a BRILLIANT salvage/loot ship anyway!

Would like to see the mining frigates converted to T2 salvage ships which salvage only. They are fast enough to get to every wreck with a small bonus to salvaging. Also, remove metal scraps from the loot pool so you don't fill it with two battleships.

A dedicated ship for salvaging & looting would be ideal. close to no weapon slots is a must, ofc.

Dedicated Salvage Ship Proposal: Orca with 3 tractors and a destroyer inside it's ship maintenance bay with 8 salvagers on it.
I do very very much like the the tractor field thing, maybe it would be worth another T2 ship to field the Tractor field the same way HIC's are built to use the Warp Bubble Generator. Not necessarily any other bonuses, perhaps the standard 5% cargo hold per level that we see on so many transport type ships.
Salvage Ninjas are Annoying and Lame, but within rights. |

Folks, those of you talking about making more money are horribly misconstruing the intent of the suggestion. Simply put: it's not to make more money, it's to ease the tedium of looting and salvaging a metric ****ton of wrecks. -Wrayeth n00b Extraordinaire "Look, pa! if you want to save time salvaging, get a orca alt with 3 tractor beams, and fit it with 100mn AB II, then you get a dessy with 8 salvagers. now you have 3 70km tractor beams pulling in at 1000m/s, a dessy to salvage it all, and a orca to store it in

So, if you don't loot your missions for the money - for what else? Just for the fun? Errr...no - you just said yourself it's tedious. So just don't do it and let others profit (atm too much) from it. If it's no fun and no money "for you", why you do it?
Your corpname still rocks, though.

Tractor field? Salvage drones that do the work for you?
No thanks.
Now give us a cruiser sized hull with a decent cargo bay and a percentage decrease in salvager duration per ship class skill level, that would be something worthwhile: boost to salvage overall so mission runners will really be in competition with career salvagers.
