@ Mairic. just wait until you have your 1st pvp encounter and get killed. Thats pretty frantic. As for your 1st pvp kill, i got a right adrenaline rush. Theres nothing better than destroying a persons ship, and possibly the pod, that you know they have worked hard for :)

tbh m8 u wouldnt want to play PS now. the devs have caved into all the whines from the twitch players.
its a great game if u fancy just fragging. but its a shadow of what it used to be..

they are hell bent on forcing ppl to use core combat. you have to have core combat in order to use anything new.

Now that this thread has been hijacked by PS, here's another old time PS player. :) Played since beta, gave it up after nerf after nerf after playing for about over a year. Now its planets and they have these battlefield areas...Arrgggg..
One of the greatest games ever, nerfed beyond belief...

The pod trick is just there to differentiate between ship destruction and PK, as they may have different penalties associated with them. Basically, someone can destroy your ship in combat, but to PK you, they have to manually target the pod, lock it, and activate the guns again, which is 3 actions, so they can't say "oops, did that by mistake, didn't mean to."
The pod functions like a (slow) ship, you can move around with it.
As far as combat, it's always like that. Well, with bigger ships, less circling and more trying to stay at range while dealing with waves of enemies, not just 2 smugglers. You get missiles incoming, frigates circling you that you can't hit, got to worry about your shields, jamming, range, etc.
But a lot of the thought goes into fitting the ship properly, rather than reacting to stay alive. The point is to fit a ship that kills the enemy ALL the time; somewhat easy vs. NPC's, difficult vs. players. And even vs. NPC's, it gets complicated with all the modules and guns and skills and options out there.
Battles are pretty much predetermined by the fittings. You get caught with the wrong setup, you die, usually within 30 seconds.
