Hi all. I've run my fair share of missions (Not loads, but plenty) from level 1s all the way up to level 4s, and seen the NPC rats do various vaguely annoying things such as scramming, webbing, and somehow cutting my targeting range by about 75% (Very annoying when you're trying to get the best out of cruise missiles) but I've never seen this latest trick before, and I'm not quite sure what I can do about it.
It's only a level 1 mission (The Score) which I am doing in my Rifter (It's usually more than enough to complete anything a level 1 throws at me). The problem is, I can't seem to actually target ANYTHING.
Surely it's some sort of E-war, right? What can I do about this one?

level 1 stuff jams? :P
try an eccm thing in the mid slot for your class, i think eccm Ladar is what you want. helps to not get jammed. not sure how strong the jam is in those missions, didnt do missions for a long time :P

Hmm... Thanks for the suggestion, but I just gave the ECCM Ladar a try, and it made absolutely no difference
This is ridiculous.... How the hell can I get stuck on a level 1 mission?

i didnt think you could get ewar in L1's but i would guess its serpentis and i would guess that YOUR BEING DAMPED.
damping should show in the ewar notification but i would say your getting damped for sure. to overcome it you should use a sensor booster + range script to get the best initial lock range you can.

I concur with Mikal, but for future reference: when asking a question, try to get as much info before asking and include it in your post.
In your case it would have been handy to have looked in your combat log, checked your ship stats while being unable to lock and see what is being reduced (target range and strength).
In the post itself it would be helpfull to mention what opponents you are facing.
Makes it a lot easier to help you figure out what is going on and what you can do against it.

No, in this mission I am not having my range cut. I am unable to target anything. At all. Even on fitting screen, my maximum locked targets is reduced to zero.
It's against Guristas, and I'm orbiting them at 1km, as is my usual tactic when flying a rifter.

Are they target jamming you (should be notified in the combat log, IIRC).
Also, what is the name of the mission ? -----------------------------------------------

The only thing in the combat log is a list of all the ships I've lost over the months.
But as they're reducing the number of targets I can lock to a big, fat zero, I'd imagine that's what you mean by 'target jamming'...

2x Pithi Despoiler (Frigate class) Jamming
Those 2 guys are your problem. Get rid of them and you should be in the clear... have you tried a missile launcher or 2 with light FOF missiles loaded ?

TBH I've never used FOF missiles at all. I trained for them, and was then assured by no less than 3 corpmates that I would never need them, so I'm not sure what they actually do....
Also, I'm not sure how reliable that particular page of Eve Survival is, because at least 4 of those enemy frigates are jamming me, according to the overview.

Give it a shot and let us know how it works out, otherwise you'll be condemned to use a different ship and try it with drones or smartbombs. -----------------------------------------------

F riend o r F oe Missiles shoot when you cant do stuff, they go and seek out something in the vicinity thats shooting you, sooner or later hitting the jamming ships :P
And with combat log we dont mean the one where your ship kills/losses are recorded, but somewhere on the left side under accesorries or so is an actual "log" entry where you can read a ****load of things.

Edited by: Zartanic on 25/07/2009 15:05:49 Jamming only lasts for 20 secs or so, each NPC seems to do it once or twice then stops for a while, at which point you kill them. Its not unusual to be jammed again before you get even one though, but eventually they seem to lose interest in jamming and you can get them.
So the trick is to avoid damage during that period. You can range tank while they jam and then move in when they are done perhaps. You should have a bar showing a timer near your hud which says 'jamming' as you seem to be vague as to the reason for it.
I don't know your ship and I assume you cant use drones, but if you can they are great for taking out ECM frigates as even when you lose lock they keep attacking. Some Frigates can use a drone or two.

And the rifter, quite annoyingly, has no drone bay
As things stand, I'm waiting for a friend to bring me some FOF missiles from Amarr, as they're ludicrously expensive where I am ATM. As soon as he arrives I will try the missiles idea, and maybe see if I can convince him to helpm out in his shiny new Omen if need be...

I just had a look, and it seems there's still over 2 hours left on the bonus timer, which seems rather generous for a level 1....
Anyway, my missiles are here now, so I'll give this a go....

thought you said you've done L4's etc ?
also glad you managed it :) if you cant afford/fly a ruppy then maybe tray a destroyer. you will be amazed how much DPS those things can do to an incomming ceptor.

I often run level 4s for FIO as well as level 2s and 3s for Nugoiehuvi, Federal Navy, etc. but I want to get standings up with a few more NPC corps, hence the level 1s.
And forgive my stupidity, but WTF is a ruppy?

Rupture - Military sexperts are calling it a Minmatar Cruiser
if your running the L4s then your most likely past cruisers by now :) im still kinda stunned that you didnt notice the jammin and other eawr from your L4 experiences.
your still pretty new but so far have (at least your forum posts) settled in and had a good eve experience so far. unlike another poster i wouldnt dare to mention . . . . .
