I Just had my corp take sov in a system... Angels.. (EVIL!)
Suggestions for angels with an Ishtar? I cant seem to get any decent tank with this thing, 300 dps tank just seems to flimsy for me. (400 will make me happy)
Any suggestions when it comes to Close Orbit Rats? Using sentries doesn't seem like an optimal solution when bouncers have the worst tracking. Using Beserkers to hit the explosive hole currently.
My Current Setup-
2 Medium Armor Repper t2 2 Explosive Hardeners 1 Cap Power Relay
10mn Afterburner t2 4 Cap Rechargers
3 425 meta 4 Autocannons 1 Salvager
5 Beserkers (t1 currently, but changing in 12 days)

if you don't have t2 heavies/sentries, im sure you can find a better ship for ratting, depending on your skills. You dont need much of a tank at all, 1 rep should be enough on pretty much anything. fit for high damage.

Im 12 days away from t2 heavies...
I have 5 in Amarr and Gallente Cruiser. No good Laser skills yet (I got it for the curse) Good base skills, but lacking in the offensive skills so far.
Pretty messed up skill tree so far unfortunately.

The ishtar is probably my personal favourite for angel. As you say it won't tank very well but quite well enough. Though for some reason you're trying to tank it where it's explosive resistance is as weakest.
[Ishtar, New Setup 1] Beta Reactor Control: Shield Power Relay I Beta Reactor Control: Shield Power Relay I Beta Reactor Control: Shield Power Relay I Beta Reactor Control: Shield Power Relay I Beta Reactor Control: Shield Power Relay I
Large Shield Extender II Large Shield Extender II Large Shield Extender II Explosion Dampening Field II Invulnerability Field II
220mm Vulcan AutoCannon II, Barrage M Small Remote Armor Repair System II /OFFLINE 220mm Vulcan AutoCannon II, Barrage M Small Remote Hull Repair System I /OFFLINE 220mm Vulcan AutoCannon II, Barrage M
Core Defence Field Purger I Core Defence Field Purger I
Berserker II x5 Valkyrie II x5 Warrior II x5 Bouncer II x5
The strength of the ishtar is to field whatever drones does the job best in that instant. You have room for all kinds. The setup above is probably more of a complex boat, if you want an AB just replace some tank with it, you're WAY overtanked. Parrots, commence!

Ishtar is a great angel ratter. And 300 dps is already overtanked tbh :P Whenever you encounter a 'tough' spawn, drop a can with 1 ammo, orbit it after you deployed your Bouncer-IIs, and you have to worry only about a fraction of their dps. When they get close, scoop your sentries and finish them with Zerker-IIs.
I was using something like
[Ishtar, New Setup 1] Dark Blood Armor Explosive Hardener Internal Force Field Array I Dark Blood Armor Explosive Hardener Medium Armor Repairer II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
10MN Afterburner II Omnidirectional Tracking Link I Omnidirectional Tracking Link I F-b10 Nominal Capacitor Regenerator F-b10 Nominal Capacitor Regenerator
250mm Railgun II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge M 250mm Railgun II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge M 250mm Railgun II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge M [empty high slot] [empty high slot]
Sentry Damage Augmentor I Sentry Damage Augmentor I
Bouncer II x5
Only works if you know you won't need an MWD for travel of course, but since you have an AB on your own fit...

300 dps tanked is more than enough for ratting, in an ishtar that's a good enough tank to do any lvl 4 angel mission aswell.

My goal is to become a PROFESSIONAL ratter.. and like the Ravens and their... missions (EW).... DPS is king...
So i present my Ishtar of Doom!
2 Mar t2 2 Explosion Hardeners t2 1 Mag Stab t2
1 AB t2 4 Cap Recharger t2
3 Modal Ion Particle Accelerator
1 CCC to make it all cap stable.
The only problem i find with the shield booster setups is CPU IS TIGHT...
Sure that explosion resist hole sucks... but its workable.
And this way you dont have to change anything but the hardeners when you face other factions.

If you really want to become a professional NPCer, you gotta first throw the concepts of permatanking and dual reppers outta the window and close it tightly. Those are the most unprofessional things you can do in PvE.
And Blasters also have no place at all on a PvE ship. Especially not on one that doesn't even have an MWD.
CPU issues can be helped with faction gear, especially faction hardeners use a LOT less CPU than T2. And if you are reading this, you have arrived at the signature without noticing...

"angels do explo damage" seems to lead to all kinds of misinterpretations...
i recommend the phrase "angels use projectile weapons" or better yet/more to the point "angels use projectile ammos" - putting the gist back into logistics |

Instead of using the AB / MWD to go faster, how about this idea.
When the rats go close, they go under 10km, when they dont, they stay out at 40km from my own experience.
If i tried to use an Omni-directional, the bonus to tracking would only really matter when they are close anyways, so...
5 Beta - SPR 3 Large Shield extender t2 1 Domination Invul 1 Stasis Web t2 (Faction maybe?) Drone Link 3 280mm 'Scout' Artillery (actually do 41 dps, not bad)
5 Bouncer's
2 Sentry Damage Rigs
That way when they get under 10km, Web should reduce their angular by 60%.
300 dps tank omni, higher if you lean towards explosive.
How much more is there thermal resist higher then their explosive resist? Would it be advisable to swap to Gardes when they get close?

I'm ratting Bloods instead of Angels so the hardeners, sentries & heavies, etc will differ. But since they are hitting you in your explosive hole I guess I can understand why other posters suggest shield tanking setups
Personally I sit still and just snipe away. Rig slots are used to add more dps
[Ishtar, sentry ratting] Damage Control II Dark Blood Armor EM Hardener Dark Blood Armor Thermic Hardener Medium Armor Repairer II Dark Blood Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane
10MN Afterburner II Omnidirectional Tracking Link I Omnidirectional Tracking Link I Dark Blood Cap Recharger Dark Blood Cap Recharger
Salvager I Salvager I Salvager I Small Tractor Beam I [empty high slot]
Sentry Damage Augmentor I Sentry Damage Augmentor I
Ogre II x5 Curator II x5

I would shield tank but keep a couple of slots for drone mods.
You dont need a great tank to rat.

I think this is what i've settled on.
1 Magnetic Field Stabilizer 4 Beta Reactor Control Cap Power Relay Cap Recharger CN Large Booster CN Explosion Damp CN Shield Boost Amp Gallente Navy 10mn MWD (not really needed but reduces cap cost, gona lookup isk cost in a minute) 3 Heavy Neutron Blasters (Meta 4 or Gallente)
Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer CCC

3 250mm Carbide Railguns (the 24 cpu ones)
1 Sentry Damage Augmentor 1 CDFP

Sorry to say, any setup including shield flux coils, does not qualify as a good solution. Go with Power diagnostics or Shield power relays. Right now you're wasting the little buffer you had for no real reason.

Same thing here, cap power relays, are awesome, not least of all so on a shield tank boat, I'm a huge fan of the CPR chimeras and such, but here, you'd really be better of with PDU's or even cap flux coils. Why? PDU's would give you less cap recharge, but more power and cap, meaning you could go with a nos in the high to compensate. Or replace the Shield boost amp with a cap recharger, get a cheaper setup with equivalent performance but larger buffer and extra grid for nos o whatever you want. Parrots, commence!
