I have decided o build a Simpit for EVE Online. I will be using three 22 inch widescreens, this means that there will be lots of room for buttons, switches and indicator lights.
I suspect that the output to the display elements will be both through the Log File and through an OCR program watching the EVE client thus pretty much anything should be possible. And input will be using EVEs vast set of shortcut keys.
I am working on putting together a feature list and want any ideas you may have. Here is my current list of possible features:
A full set of 16 (I can't imagine needing 24) module toggle buttons, overload toggle and timers. A stop button. A reload button. Accelerate and decelerate buttons. A set of drone buttons. Display for Shields, Armor, Structure and Capacitor.(And predicted time left) ECM timer (local and remote). Combat log LCD display. Active effects display.
Anyone got any ideas?
Is it possible to change selected targets with the keyboard? If so I have a load of other features I want to implement.

Make it AWESOME! Have a big red warning light that goes on when you're jammed? Another one for when you're targeted? Use switches like this for your modules (especially guns/missiles) Linkage And have something that slaps you whenever you start mining.

Have it so that you have to sit naked in a bath tub of baby oil while you play, with a hose pipe shoved up your rear to simulate being plugged into "the system".
When you get yourself podded, have a mechanism drop a load of fireworks into the bath for a gooey, spectacular death effect!

I will have the red lights for while I am being targeted, but I am unsure how to trigger them. And yes I have a source for switches like that, but I don't want to use one for each module. Perhaps for rack overloading? Or an eject/self destruct button? Do those shortcuts even exist?

Edited by: Darkeen on 28/07/2009 06:35:40 Hi,
Complete remote control (no cables) and put it on rollers..... So that any joystick movement is directly related to the ship so your actually upside down and roll with the ship.....
I know that space doesnt have normal gravity but ppl still get affected by it - and it would be so cool! Maybe bluetooth connection (on the "ship") to the main console which plugs in via USB 2.0?
Detail: the ship would be on ballbearings with a main "trackball" to control the cage rolling. The entire cage will house all the switches, LCD monitors, seat with airplane flight seatbelt (H design). Use a air flight control stick for realistic airplane view but seat the main pod seat in the centre...
Maybe you could go to Nevada's airplane graveyard for the fitout???
You might need to get your Salvage skill to 6 for that though :)
