This idea has come up a few times and a few days ago some of us had a discussion about it, so I thought it might be time for a full discussion on the forum. The idea is simple enough, to create a new type of drone that can track an enemy ship for a certain period of time, or system number. Once a enemy ship is probed out and found, the tracker drone could be attached to the ship, giving you enough time to put a gang together, or track it back to its home system, etc. Obviously the tracker would need its own set of counters and balancing, but it seems like an interesting idea and yet another way to make sneaking into enemy territory something to be carefully considered.

For the sake of my eyes, I had to do that...
But it would be a nice idea, if you could come up with a reasonable counter. ________________________________________________ For changes to Minmatar Battleships click here (also with a review of the Muninn!) |

One suggested counter would be to have the drone on a timer, the longer the timer the higher the inaccuracy of the warp in. Sorta like the old probing system.

No doubt locator agents are useful, but they don't fill the immediate combat need that tracker drones would. Especially in zero space combat.

Edited by: Blnukem 192 on 27/07/2009 00:40:02 If it was restricted to a certain type of ship, lets say covert ops, this can be a very useful tool.

Agreed. And the timer effect could be tied to skill level, percentage less effect each skill level up.

Maybe a tracker drone would be able to follow a target after it warps like fighters, and you can warp to the drone. The person being followed could kill the drone or simply warp to a POS and lay a trap? __________________________________________________
