Harry Voyager	Posted - 2004.10.11 09:39:00 - [31] Well, I know the Jaguar set up I'd like to fly costs a total of 67 million at current prices, even though I know where I can get the base ship for a mere 25m. The problem that Assault frigates run into is that they still die just as quickly as frigates. You get nossed with a stream of 40+ torps behind you, or you get webbed while at the wrong distance from a gankagheddon, and you're going home in a pod. Shoot, even a Tempest with 1400mm's can suddenly relieve you of your ship if one of those shells actually lands home, and then that 30m isk ship has been reduced to a 3m isk insurance settlement. That is the real problem with the Tech II ships; they simply cost to much to lose to be cost effective in modern combat. I'm still going to get that Jaguar eventually, but it will be as an expensive toy, taht I expect to lose without recompense, not as a bread-and-butter ship. Maybe by the time I've gotten all the skills up to use it properly, the price of tech II components will have fallen down to around their refine value. I certainly hope so, but we shall see. The second is all so wrong, everything thats coming into the game is designed to mix it up and freshen combat up... the games not going forward while this stupid situation remains. Aslong as people are paying billions for the prints and such.. it's never going to change. More prints, and t2 building blocks.... Have you flown an Assault frig already? They most definitely dont die as fast as a normal frig. You actually hold quite well against cruisers. Their resistances are what makes the difference. I ve been quite surprised myself how well i actually did in 1 vs 1 against a Thorax (without or only a few drones the thorax had to run from me). Admittably i flew a Harpy there, which deals better damage then Hawk. However as pointed out the Hawk tanks better, which gives you more time, so a bit less damage isnt that crucial. Of course you wont last long against a BS, but then Assault frigs certainly aint meant to tackle BS alone. Having flown both ships i d say both Harpy and Hawk are quite nice. It really depends on your very personal preferences. Either a bit more damage output, or better tanking. And to advertise a little, we are happy to supply you with a Hawk at fair prices, just check the Veisto market, or contact Omron or me.
