As most who frequent #eve-online on stratics, the unofficial EVE channel, will be aware the stratics network has had alot of problems lately, while they are working hard on fixing them for now you can use port 7000 on irc.stratics.com and it should work, atleast it's been working better than the normal ports. hth. - DStroy

Great. Would be even greater if you actually told us how to switch to port 7000, I set 7000 as my default in options but it still uses 6667.

Just use /connect irc.stratics.com:7000 Should work in most irc clients

here, have a cookie.
Yes it has been and is #eve-online, and as said earlier the channel is located on the stratics network, which currently is best reached through port 7000, so do /server irc.stratics.com:7000 to get that access in most command lines for most IRC programs, like trillian, mIRC etc.
For the newer people some short info, the channel has been in existence for a pretty long time, for some time during the beta it was also the official channel, that no longer is the case but it is still the best place to find some of the older community people, including pre-alpha people(you can point and laugh but pls don't touch them, they might disintegrate into dust...); aswell as obviously people from all alliances and many mayor corps. Endless corp has had a stats site somewhere aswell but the link eludes me right now, alltime top was prolly 3-400 or more people in it, but the average is prolly around 100-150 depending on day and on stratics behavior, which as stated has been really bad lately, they had something like DDoS's and hurricanes and serverfailures and stuff happen all at once which led to the last weeks problems...

just copypasting from stratics irc site : ----- IRC News - 1:20 PM EDT | Posted By: Erusun As a suggestion for those of you having problems connecting to Stratics with mIRC, try typing these commands into your client. All they do is allow mIRC to cycle through all the stratics servers instead of just repeatedly trying the same (possibly failed) server over and over.
Type these commands in mIRC: /server -add stratics.frws.com -group stratics /server -add irc2.glowfish.de -group stratics /server -add stratics.afraidyet.net -group stratics /server -add irc.epaxsys.net -group stratics
irc.stratics.com is already in mirc, so there is no need to add it with this command.
Once you have all the stratics servers in mIRC, it should attempt to connect to each one of them in order until it finds one that it can connect to successfully.
If for some reason you want to remove one of these, you can find them in Tools-Connect-Servers
To make it use this cycle of servers, you have to actually type "/server irc.stratics.com" or "/server stratics". If you push connect in the GUI of mIRC, it only tries that one server instead of using the list. -----
The 4 servers listed up are the network, so alternatively you can also try to connect to anyone of them directly and assuming it works it should get you online. : irc.frws.com (USA, Colorado) irc.glowfish.de (EU, Germany) irc.epaxsys.net (USA, Colorado) stratics.afraidyet.net (USA, Texas) irc.stratics.com (re-routing to one of the above servers)
And yes yesterday it worked nicely but right now I'm having problems getting in again, if this keeps up we're obviously looking into alternatives.
