After spending a good 15 minutes searching for what I'm looking for, I can't find anything. Would anyone happen to have dev replies to salvaging mechanics, or more specifically if Salvaging skill / rigs / T2 modules affects the amount of salvage? |

Edited by: Bellac on 29/07/2009 08:08:29 I too would be interested to know the formula behind not only salvaging but hacking and archeology. I have been looking for some time now and I can see how skills, rigs and modules will affect the % chance to find loot. It is not clear however if it simply gives an improved chance to open the loot that is already in the can, or if it gives an improved chace to find better loot when you have higher skills. This is most evident on arch and hack sites for example where most of the time the cans are empty once opened.

Higher skills modules and rigs allow you:
1) a higher chance of success, so that you spend less time hacking/salvaging/analysing;
2) access to salvage from T2 ships and faction ships, access to some containers that will not open for people with lower skills.
They don't get you more salvage from a wreck you can access.
The chances of getting something, the kind of stuff and the quantity are determined by the kind of wreck you are salvaging or can you are analysing/hacking.

There are no ship bonus, modules or skills/abilities that improves the amount of salvage you can get from a wreck. I thought that was pretty common knowledge.
Wreck size and the bounty of the ship before it became a wreck seems to have some influence though. ---------------- Mr. Science & Trade Institute

i can see where the OPs confusion comes from, as the description on related skills and modules/rigs is quite ambiguous.
for example:
Quote: Proficiency at identifying and analyzing ancient artifacts. Required skill for the use of Analyzer modules. 5% increase in chance of archaeological find per level.
ok, 5% of increased chance of a "find". some will interpret this as "5% of chance of opening the can" and otherw will interpret this as "5% of chance to find something, so the less i have = empty can, the more i have = uber loot"
this last example seems stupid to me TBH, as it's a well known fact (afaik) that the CONTENT of a wreck/can is determined before you even get close to it.

Hehe, I know how you feel. I know that that's how it works, but I have a few friends that won't believe what multiple posts say unless there's a blue border on them.

And let them contaminate others? I'd rather stop it at the source ;)
