I think CCP are more concerned about competition from games that might ever actually exist.

Edited by: Blane Xero on 29/07/2009 19:44:09 Anyone care to post the list of all the threads where this topic has came up every other week since the announcement of Infinity/Jumpgate/Black Prophecy...
Edit; Obviously not all of them, but a handful to put it into perspective about how non-unique and dead-ended this line of thought is. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

Yea, jumpgate beta was supposed to come out earlier this month. Lo and behold, don't see it yet.
Plus they're as different as D&D and WoW. More so actually. ___________________________________________

I doubt Jumpgate will have much of an impact on EvE (assuming it ever releases). EvE players have too much already invested in this game to give it up. ______________ Some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn. |

Maybe it will be this game or the other it doesnt matter.
It matters that the competition will actually raise some day and it will be a difficult moment for eve,

Jumpgate and EVE are two very, very different games if you watch the few videos released of Jumpgate.
Jumpgate is more like a FPS whereas EVE is more like an RTS. So what if they're both sci-fi themed MMOs - people will buy one or the other or both depending on what kind of gameplay they like.

That entirely depends on how one defines "Morning". For me, Morning is whenever i wake up and thus could be any time of the day. What if i sleep through tomorrow?!?! _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

I seriously doubt it. There are quite a few very good games I keep dusting off now and then for a week or two, but Eve is really the only one that kept me playing for almost 3 years straight without hiatus.
And lets face it, it has quite some annoying bugs features, graphics are sub-standard etc, but that doesnt change anything for their customer base.
Its almost like being on crack tbh, so unless some company does release a complete rip-off with less bugs and better gfx I dont see it happening. Even then there is this thing about the time you already invested going to waste.

Is it me or does this ^^ sound like a threat. At any rate that game you put on a pedistal for all to admire and feel inclined to play over eve doesnt really look all that impressive imo. Interesting yes but impressive no. It looks like Doom in space, another Arcade style twitch mind drain. Not deep or with substance like EvE at all. If you have a problem with EvE so much first you can do: this and just leave.

Jumpgate is dead to me. I signed up for beta 18 months ago and....nada.
However, I think the one EVE players should watching is Star Trek Online. I'm sure it'll have aliens and sound! I doubt I'll ever leave EVE permanently but I will be trying STO out for sure. Is this a run on sentence or my signature? You decide. |

From what I see bout the game it wont compete at all with EVE; Eve being a great and intelligent game, while the game you mention being stupid and too twitchy. I did not even look twice..

This wouldn't be the case if they had a more detailed dynamic flight model. Bellum Eternus Inveniam viam aut faciam.

But a more detailed dynamic flight model which would allow you to rotate irrespective of which direction you had momentum would make the noobs head explode.
Kinda like EVE where you stop as soon as you cut your engines. :P
Real space combat would be pretty challenging.
