First. I'm not claiming this is invariably a good idea. I'm really not.
Second. I have indeed been around the block and I'm most definitely just advocating for an easier time for a new player to get started.
With that out of the way:
What would the implications be, positive or negative, of being able to queue two skills regardless of training time involved OR queue 24 hours of start time as is the current standard?
Obviously, a cap alt could queue two or three months of skills if allowed to do two at a time. On the flip side, a newer player trying to get some skills from, say, four to five, might be more able to take a short break from the game while still paying for it and be able to train support skills while on vacation or what have you.
Anyone see another obvious disadvantage to this? I'm not advocating it; I certainly did my time without any queue at all -- including time in a country with truly spotty internet access. But I'd like to see if I'm missing something obvious. Anyone?

The only reason CCP did it the way they did it was because "they prefer if you logged in at least once a day". True, you can set up a skillqueue that's (24 h + longest_skill_time - 1 sec) long, but then again that's only 24h extra from what you could already do.

Skill queue is fine 24 hrs is great. No more alarm clock skill changes. Basically CCP, however rare it may be, did a great job here.

Players pretty quickly reach a point where they'll have a rank 3+ skill at level 4, that's almost a 2 week break they can take, i don't really see the problem.

*Looks at those x3 skills that take 1d 1h to get to level 4*

Edited by: Hellinthose on 02/08/2009 10:20:38 i dont know if Akita T was quoting word for word from CCP, but its kinda irrelevant when one gets more experienced, as say captial skills.
I personally will train two lesser trained skills before throwing a longer skill on there adding to a minimum of 5 days before i have to log in again. This ensures that my flaky internet connection doesnt cause me to miss out on skillpoints.
Regardless, it wouldnt really HURT or HELP anything, as my next skill will be a 28 day training time, upon completing that,i have a 15 day training time and then another 18 day.
I wont have to log in but once a month.
As for newer players, queing within the 24 hours is plenty as its designed to ensure those pesky 30 minute skills get stacked so you dont get ****ed off an quit based off of lack of time to change them out.

Sure, pretty much what I did with two Cruiser 5s from Georgia the first time Saakhashvili was nearly overthrown. (Before the queue, mind.) Talk about questionable connections....

In the same boat, more or less. I don't actually mind it in the least and it does actually get me to run a mission or catch up with some friends from time to time. But if I expected anywhere where I expected an interrupted connection for long periods of time, security might be nice.

Oh, it's wonderful for new characters. I just wonder if some older characters might benefit from the "up to two skills" scheme enough to make it beneficial.

Edited by: stoicfaux on 03/08/2009 18:10:27 The only benefit I can see to queuing two skills would be for long AFKs such as vacation or four day weekend where you cannot log in to train a "short" three day skill followed by something else. This assumes that you really want the three day skill completed when you come back from vacation. Currently, you would either have to train the three day skill and lose a few days of unassigned training, or train a really long skill and then wait three days when you get back from vacation.
But let's be honest. The holy grail is to export a year long EveMon skill plan to the server and not have to worry about awkward login times or juggling short/long skills to meet real world demands. It would make for a interesting character selling market, which is probably why CCP won't do it.
just for the record: the 24 hour skill queue is a godsend.

I don't think it will actually, chars already go for way less than the gtc's it costs to make'em.

It's not long until virtually all your skills take a couple of days to train to the next level, and by that point the only main consideration is that you log in "some time" within 24 hours of it ending. It used to really suck when I had to juggle skills around like mad and I had about a dozen skills with 5-6 hours left on them that I just couldn't schedule a convenient time for them to finish. Now? No problem, and if I do need to take an extended break there are still plenty of 14-day-plus skills to chuck on.

The skill queue is just fantastic, especially when you add all those annoying rank 1 skills for T3 subsystems.
