And it's going to be directed by Ridley Freaking Scott!
How cool could this be? There's no actual info about it, but there's a story on /. that says what I've already stated with more words.
I'm just glad there's something new and exciting to look forward to that stands a good chance of not sucking.

Edited by: Micheal Dietrich on 01/08/2009 07:35:22 I don't think anyone here is a bigger alien fan than I. I loved one because it actually had that scare factor that todays so called horror movies seem to lack.
I loved Aliens because it was full of awesome quotes that were quoted by some badass marines.
3 wasn't so bad as it was one dealing with a bunch of prisoners using anything they could get their hands on to kill it.
4 was pretty horrible. It annoyed my deeply that they changed the look of the alien completely making it look more human and ...white...
Then came AVP which is what people wanted to see for years after noticing in Predator 2 an alien skull on the ship when Danny Glover was checking out the trophy room. While I thought it was decent I also felt it could have been much, much better. Like I said, I love aliens but I felt the first 2 predators could have done more damage than they did.
AVP2 made a little more progress than 1 with the exception that once again they modified the alien too much (I understand they take on traits of the host but that was too much) and they arrival of the belly bursters was just too much for me.
So I would like this to be good and possibly maybe we may learn about the Space Jockey's some more.
Edit: Along with owning all the movies I also have several books by various authors and the RPG (in pieces but I still have it). I also had that alien vs predator vs space marine game for a while but the copy I had was bugged to hell n back.

AvP was a huge letdown for me. I was really hoping that the Predators would hunt the Aliens on the Aliens home planet.
Every time there is some strange monster in scifi I can't help but wonder about the ecology where they come from. What do you suppose the Alien home world is like?
I hope this movie is entirely set on the home world and we get to see the natural enemies of the Aliens.

Its not. "word of god" say that the ship that they find in the first alien movie is a bomber that have crashed. they used the aliens as a bio weapin. fly to a planet you want dead and drop a few eggs...

Oh. Well then maybe they don't have a home world anymore? Maybe the reason the Predators hunt them is because the aliens home world was destroyed, so they are a rarity.

I always thought the 'Aliens' of Alien/Aliens were a purpose-created bioweapon. Think about it:
- The facehugger eggpods can survive indefinite exposure to hostile atmosphere, and presumably lack of atmo too. - They have acid for blood. Seriously. - Though the facehuggers lay eggs, the newly hatched chestburster will seek out live prey, rather than the more easily available corpse it has burst from. - Naturally stealthy, not revealed by 'thermal vision' (heat spectrum).
On the other hand, if they EVOLVED this way, their home planet must really be something.
On the other other hand, if there's a deity and he/she/it created the universe, I'm not sure I want to go to heaven. I might just end up on someone's snack tray.

From what I remember of the backstory, and it's been awhile, pretty much everything you said is cannon, i.e. they were engineered to be the ultimate weapon, but something went wrong. Horribly wrong.
So maybe now we'll get a bit of a look at that. Hopefully it won't be a human plan under the new script, but something alien (no pun intended).

The thing is the Alien is a bug, and not an animal which I think is the best part. In the original Alien, did any one see the huge dead Alien sitting in the ship under what looked like a giant telescope of some kind.
I've never read up on the back story of the Alien, but they could very well indeed be the bio-weapon of a similar space faring bug race!

There is a visual hint in Battlestar Gallactica that the cylons were behind these Aliens. I won't say more as it will be a spoiler.
In the first film they went aboard that big spaceship that had a very large skeleton in a seat. Some sort of navigator. The comic books have run with that thread.

Aliens being built as a weapon are one of the theories. Another one is that the space jockeys found them on another planet and went to war with them.
Also FYI space jockeys aren't exactly well to do beings themselves. They kind of have a loathing hate for everything in space.

I don't care what they wanted to call it. It was ugly, depressing, and stupid looking. And the standard aliens are generally based off of humans, its just that particular one, or rather the queen, had its DNA mixed with Ripley.

Went to war with them? that would have been the shortest war in history. one race got space ships, the other is crawling around on the surface of a planet. unless the space jockeys are the stupidest ****s in the universe(and in that case they wouldnt be flying around in ships!) the would have simply started dropping large rocks at the planet. no need to land and get killed.

No sense in bombing a planet if you originally don't know whats on it? Also they may have been trying to take the same applications to the aliens that we do. Research them and market them.
I suggest reading the Earth Hive series some time by Steve Perry. In it the corporations actually smuggle one alien back to Earth for research in the drug sector and leave it to a religious nut to let it loose. Within months they successfully take over the planet so it goes to show what one alien can accomplish.

There is no known real history behind where the aliens come from.
Their origin story is up to David Giler and Ridley Scott, and they haven't said anything about where the aliens came from.

The comics set in the Alien world suggest the giants, seen deed in Alien in the crescent ship, that they harvest aliens from hives on their home planet.
One has to wonder how fierce other life on that planet must be to keep the alien in check given its aggressive nature and relentless urges.

I don't think those comics are considered canon though, especially when you have this.

I donno if anyone read the alien Vs. Predator books and comics, but according to them the predator seeded planets with the alien eggs to create new places for the hunt, as they considered the alien to be the greatest pray.
Donno how it ties in with the ship in "Alien" and the weird elephant man looking thing in it. Please resize image to a maximum of 400 x 120, not exceeding 24000 bytes. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] ~Saint |

It was white because when they cloned Ripley, they didn't have any of the Alien DNA (for the Alien embryo inside her), so they used human instead.
Yea it was pretty stupid.
