100,000 unit Spodumain asteroid in a wormhole, Unexceptional Frontier Deposit. 1.6 million m3 of ore. Biggest I've ever seen. The same site had multiple 200,000 unit asteroids of lower end ore (kernite, 4 veldspar, 1 plag, 2 scordite, maybe omber). ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

Its along time ago now - but in the past there was no limit to the size that veld roids could grow and if you found a system where nobody had been mining for a month or so (quite easy to do back then) you could go the the belts and all you would see was one or two gigantic veld roids 50km or more in diameter which engulfed the entire belt with millions of units of ore in them. I bet someone will have a linky for picures of how it used to be - but in the modern era of mining I guess about 1.5 mill m3 of ore must be as big as it gets.

Seen one of those Veldspar. It was the size of a small moon. It was 4 jumps from Jita too.

That was the only decent pic I could find but that is no where near big enough - and I suspect with a BC in the pic is infact from a time when the "really big roid" situation had been removed from game.
I couldnt find a decent pic myself either - only a thumbnail in google which hints at the uber roid. Look at the second piccy on the secon line of this page (super roids)
google huge roid piccy search
This piccy is too small to see the detail - but you can see it has the old HUD and is therefore at least from the right period in game.

A roid in a certain 0.0 system where i used to live. After it was popped it revealed an ENTIRE roid belt inside of it.

once upon a time there was a bug that made roids go supersize - So big that the warp-in point for the belt was buried deep within it and you'd get bumped out 2000km or so
haven't seen that since I first played wayyyyyy back (03/04) though...

Back in early retail, prior to the ore remap (roughly the first three months or so) there were some BIG roids.
I used to have a screenie of an arkanor roid in HORKKISEN that was so big you couldnt mine it, because you could not get within range of it for the mining lasers. you bounced off the roid before you could get into range :) I want to say it was in the 13-15K radius, but it's been 6 years or so and I have slept once or twice since then.
might still have the screenie in backups someplace, will see if i can find it. I love the smell of Napalm in the morning |

dont have a pic but i found a 40k unit Mercoxit Roid in my Lvl 5 WH. Off the books i crapped my pants. Anyway it may not be the biggest but it sure was the most profitable. Searphim Nyrum leaks Morphite into the Jita Market slowly. Too bad the prices have gone down so much the last 2 months or corp would be making triple what ii is off of it now. BTW when did they introduce Mercoxit ito the whs it had been about a month since id been in a WH and I come back and i find that monster my first scan. Asteroids Tend to be very "Talkative" IMO. Although all i hear are their screams! |

Mercoxit was reported to be in sime core sites since apoc 1.0. The big rocks seen in the grav sites now has been since Apoc 1.2, IIRC.
