Larkonis Trassler	Posted - 2009.08.02 14:45:00 - [1] So, last night I was cutting around on my alt in my battle hulk hoping for someone to canflip me and looking for targets for our suicide gank destroyer squad one jump out in Lowsec. I was at a planet on my D Scanner looking for hulks on scan when approximately 3 destroyers and 4 T1 frigates showed up next to me. They quickly start yellow boxing me. Undetered I activate my tanking modules and see a few of them off with my drones before the arrival of Concord and their subsequent death. Now, I doubt these people had enough firepower to take down even a normal hulk, let alone a tanked up battle hulk. I convo'd one of the gentlemen who assaulted me: [ 2009.08.02 00:20:35 ] My Alt > don't try and gank an extended battlehulk [ 2009.08.02 00:20:43 ] EVIL PIRATE > Protip [ 2009.08.02 00:20:54 ] EVIL PIRATE > That destroyer barely cost anything [ 2009.08.02 00:21:02 ] My Alt > cool story bro [ 2009.08.02 00:21:08 ] EVIL PIRATE > oh lol [ 2009.08.02 00:21:23 ] EVIL PIRATE > You're trying to tell me tech 1 fit thrashers are expensive No idiot (ps, thanks for the Tech II Gyrostabs you had fitted)... This fellow completely missed the point. Where has professional pride gone amongst pirates and gankers? Out of dozens and dozens of attempts I can count on the fingers of one of ET's hands how many times we failed and we would ALWAYS come back with more to finish the job. Piracy, griefing, being a rogue... It's more than just a bit of fun, it's a profession, a play style, if you mess up you are not just making yourself look terrible but all pirates. Get a grip... do the job and do it right.

Drakan290	Posted - 2009.08.02 18:48:00 - [8] I totally agree, one of the reasons I've started ganking Russians instead of similarly aged American or European players, Russian pirates still have at least a slight sense of honor. One of the things that **es me off the most about piracy in EVE is falcon alts. Firstly, if you're pretty obviously going to gank the ** out of me, drop the falcon, it just makes the kill humiliating. Secondly, If it's going to be a fair fight, please be prepared to lose a ship -- I know I lose ships all the time. Piracy isn't about killboard stats or lowsec fleets, it's about bragging rights and that 'cool' factor that you've just killed a Hulk in Tama with a Rifter. Bringing in all the falcons (seems everyone and their mother has a falcon nowadays) just makes it unenjoyable. Sorry for the threadjack but I thought this needed to be brought out. Anyway, professional pride is one of the few things I live with. If the person asks for a ransom, why the hell not? I don't need the kill, it's about the adrenaline rush of the fight, then realizing you've just made off with 100m and possibly an ally for a later time. I know I've become friends with those who've ransomed my ships. Also; ITT failfit thrashers.

Piracy is about many things and one of the more fundamental ones is making iskies by looting wrecks and ransoming dudes. Losing lots of ships because you don't use backup doesn't seem to have any particular pirate virtue. I lure you into a "fair" seeeming fight and then gank you with extra's - I'm making iskies by being a cunning pirate. Sure I don't like Falcons much, they tend to reduce the number of fights, but pirating is not about fighting fair. Ganking is an intergral part of piracy and the gank is often about presenting what looks like a fair fight - but it isn't. I like a good close fight as much as the next person but that is not a pirate thing that is a pvp thing.
