I read somewhere on the forum (but now can't find it) where Courier Missions could be used to quickly transport goods. The procedure included the courier "breaking" open something and relinquishing the security deposit, then the goods would be moved somewhere instantly. Anyone know what the procedure was?

Here's a copy of the post I think you are refering to:
Often when selling or buying items, it is hard to setup a place and time that is convenient to both buyer and seller to meet to arrange transfer. Here is an easy way to get around that, I have done it several times and it works like a charm. Ok, you just sold item x to player y. Go to any station and click on missions. Click on the add courier tab. On the left double click the item you are selling. On the right set a reward of 1 and a collateral of 1 isk over the selling price. Type in the pilots name on the appropriate search field and click search. Double click the pilot and then click add mission. Message the buyer with the system/station and voila! Easy transfer convenient to all. Buyer picks up the mission at the station and opens the cargo forfeiting the mission. Seller gets the collateral, buyer gets the item.

Would be usefull if the goods could be moved instantly, someone offered me a Medium Modified Pulse Laser, but it's halfway across the galaxy, so it's pretty much useless unless some nice person wants to pick it up and drop it of near me. My Tristan would not survive, it would be warpscrambled, webified and blown up before I got within 10 jumps of the new weapon I can buy.
Golda, this trick still requires you to move to the station where the seller sets up the mission, so you still need to travel vast distances.
Would someone actually carry out the courier mission if I offered a little cash as payment ?

I believe that is the point of a courier mission . . .
You provide a "Reward" which is the payment for this person to do the runs, a bunch of people make a living off of these courier runs, offer a nice sum of money for the person to transfer it, you might be surprised at what people will do.

Btw, be careful with trading megacyte like this though, you want to make sure to do a large collateral, so the person doesn't see a 1.31 m3 volume with a 100k reward for 12 jumps and a collateral of 1,000,000 isk.
They go, ooh, mega, open the container and you lose your mega =/ depening on the volume, you can lose a bit of money doin it =/

Fallout, Thanks! That's the one I was looking for. And I've begun a habit of checking courier missions at the station I'm currently in. Occasionally there's something there for me to bring to a station that happens to be on my way.

colleteral seems to be bugged a bit rigth now.!
i sold a few drones for 500k but i never got the colletral yet.

Breaking the container doesn't automatically anul the mission, it just makes it impossible to complete. you'll get payment when the mission expires.

Don't set the mission for a long period of time, as you WON'T see the collateral until the missions expires.
