Okay, so my various forum searches came up empty...where does one run missions to get the Michi's Mining Augmentation?

Caldari low-sec COSMOS, if I'm not mistaken.

Correct. However, it isn't actually in low sec. You have to pass through one low sec system to get to the agent and mission area, then do a courier run a bit further into low sec. After that, you have to make it through that low sec system again with the implant. Guys scout peeps doing that mission and WILL try to jam you up getting back out with that thing. Bring some friends and make sure one of them is a pretty good scout. We had a guy in a cov-ops sneak into the low sec system and watch which way they aligned. 3 gates in that system, but only two are high sec gates. We had to wait until someone else passed through and distracted them, then headed for the opposite gate and made it through. I STILL hope that ****ed them off, lol.

But the mission itself is fairly easy? Or is it a multi thread type of thing like some of the other cosmos stuff?

The mission is 3 parts and involves a 1 courier as well as 2 combat parts. The second combat mission is 5 pockets and doable solo, however the last pocket does do a decent amount of DPS.

The second combat mission is one of the hardest missions which you can find in hisec. You need the tank of a command ship to not getting blown up in seconds in the last pocket. The worst part is that - as already stated - you have to travel through lowsec to the agent, so there is a high chance you get caught in you valuable command ship (or faction fitted CNR) by piratez before even you get the mission. Btw, the lowsec system in question is almost always camped.

the 3rd part the courier job can be turned in without returning to michi. i was 3 4 jumps out when i turned it in and received the coveted michi's augmentation. which i gave to our mining director.
