IS there anyway to take over the tower without killing it?
I have found a system that has 4 large towers that are anchored only no shields and no mods on the tower they have been barron for a month now.

Nope - unless you somehow manage to join the corp and get permissions to unanchor them.

okay so if there are still mods like guns and stuff and I kill the tower i should be able to unanchor the mods then

Yup, once the tower is downed you can steal what ever mods are left.

If there's no profit to be made you need to travel further afield.

Yes.
If it's low-sec or 0.0 just go for it.
If it's high sec though, you'll need to issue a war-dec, at which time they may pull in all the towers and mods, or they may just pull in all the modules and leave the towers, meaning your profit is gone.
If they start to pull down the towers you might be able to warp in and nick something in the few seconds between it unanchoring and them scooping it up themselves.....but you'll probably only get one go at that. Remember you'd be a war target, so they can shoot you on sight.

Best thing is accidentally screwing up mission aggro on a non-cap stable mission boat, emergency warping out to the closest celestial off your nose, and landing on a moon with an unanchored large tower and no one around.
Not that I would ever jack someones unanchored large Gallente Control Tower tho, that would be wrong.
