Hello I signed up fro this game over 8 months ago and then decided to pay for the game two weeks ago. Am finding the whole experience so confusing. The tutorials need tutorials. I want to start the tutorials from scratch but cannot work out how to do this. Have tried the help channels but they seem to be full of trolls talking about themselves and no help is given. The main channel is full of people trying to sell me something (how do you report them). I've read the Eve guide and understand what is to be done but in world it is a different story. I have no idea why it is made so complicated for new comers! I've paid for a full three months but I don't expect to get the benefit of that if i cannot work out how to play in world! All help appreciated Spacexcape

This is sadly common. I hear a lot of people saying how great the new tutorials are, but tbh there just confusing.
I recommend making an alt toon (easily done from the character selection page), and going through them all again. After that if there's anything specifically you need to know check through the wiki, then the forums. Better yet, find a corp thats happy to help newbies.
Good luck!

Eve University will give you all the help you need.
It's a player led school, a Corp that you can join. They have a damned good reputation both with CCP and the player base, and are a damned fine bunch of folks too.
It was set up for folks like yourself and now covers just about every aspect of Eve. Many a pod pilot in Eve have launched their career after doing a spell in EU |

You can hit Esc and look for Reset Settings. There might be some buttons to reset tutorials. If that doesn't work you could ask a GM to reset them for you.

Edited by: Waci on 05/08/2009 11:30:57 Open the help panel from the left side of the screen, click the tutorials name to play it. If you really are in trouble (like, don't know how to move around, start with crash course.) Play and remember each one of them, then go looking for a newb friendly corp. -------------------------------------------------

Hit ESC, in one of the menus you should see something like "Reset Tutorial"
Or make an alt and go thru the tutorials. Or heck, keep the alt if you like.

The noobie channel should be removed until they sort the spam out, it looks very bad to new players.
As said, use the escape key and there is an option to reset.
Ironically the worst impressions of the game are in the new areas which is true of most mmorpgs I think. You get the idiots and the trolls there as well as the ADD types. As you learn the game you will find its very deep and rewarding but please get a good corp, many are suitable for beginners.

My corp trains new players. Send me a mail in game to this character and I will get you some help. Also you can reset tutorials if you hit escape and find that option in the menus. I am not able to get on the game right now so if someone could help out with the specific tab that is on I would appreciate it. If not I can get it to you later.

Obligatory link to the EVE learning curve (scientific diagram) here.
The first few days are meant to be tough. The good news is, if you blow up, you get a free rookie ship whenever you dock at a station, so you can try, try again. If I were you I'd try to reset the tutorials, ask for advice in Local (not in Help or Rookie Help) and just sort of wing it. Mine a little, run a mission if you can, and in a few weeks it'll make more sense.

Just to add CCP is very aware the new player experience is lacking which is why they upgraded it considerably in the last expansion (its considerably better than it used to be)
So if there are any particular issues it would be useful to post them in the suggestions forum. Unlike other Devs CCP do listen and act.

Initially you want to reset the tutorial. It will start to sink in second time round. Once you have found your feet you should consider joining a player corporation which welcomes newer characters and supports what you want from the game. Even if you donĘt stay with that corp the initial help and advice will be invaluable.
Also this forum is a good place to ask any specific questions you have (mostly) troll free.

Whilst I'm not the worlds biggest Eve-Uni fan (it's a great idea but it's bounded by bureaucracy) I do feel bound to set this one straight:
Eve Uni do not have a 100% tax on missioning except during wars, during which time you should not be missioning, for your own good. Also during wars they don't accept new members anyway.
Last time I checked their standard tax rate was 2.5%.

That I find to be bull****. If they're really out to teach new players, why not teach them the very basic skills necessary to avoid getting caught? It's not hard to look at local and occasionally check the directional scanner.

As I'm informed by a friend, this is only while they are at war. And while you're at war, you're not allowed to mission anyway, which the tax kinda helps enforce. I'm told that during wardecs you can either drop corp with no penalty and they organise training activities in chat channels for the purpose, or you can join the force that goes out to prosecute the war, and learn some PvP from that.

Just like the others had mentioned, reset the tutorials and run them again, I'm only 2 weeks into the game and that helped alot since the first few days I was lost. Also, just from what I've seen, I'd say to simply talk to people one on one, since like you mentioned the channels are really bad. Heck, even when I got blown up, the other guy gave me advice on how to avoid it again.
On a side note, I'd also like to know what can be done to report those random players spamming "get your ISK, blah blah blah here!" Blocking them is a waste of time and really makes me look to channels even less for help.

Edited by: Zartanic on 06/08/2009 02:50:03 Edited by: Zartanic on 06/08/2009 02:48:04 You can report them but CCP is yet to devise a simple report/block function and server side basic filtering in non existent. Players cant install a simple mod to stop it either as you could in another well known game before those Devs got their finger out their arse and did it server side.

As stated before, it is simple BS that you can't mission as you are pretty safe doing L1 and L2 missions in empire
And yes, I know they have the 100% tax when they are at war which they were (and still are?) when I went to join. I was told I couldnt fly on my own and had to wait for fleets to move. No mention of the drop corp and meet up in chat.
Like I said, not for me so Ive been flying around since while part of some research alliance corp

On topic, I just started my first serious character on my paid account (I did trial twice before) and I think the tutorials have improved alot.
I do have to agree that it is alot to get on a short while and having played trials before really helped me to get the full picture.
Some tutorials could use some more detail. Like; the hacking tutorial is nice and simple but when it was over I realized I had no idea what exactly could be hacked. I learned of hacking sites through the wiki.
My best advice would be to redo the tutorials you need and possibly join a nice corp that helps you, as I'm planning to do soon myself. (Although the tutorials are really basic training you need even before joining a corp)

The level of the missions don't matter, the fact is that as a new player running missions, docking and undocking, jumping gates etcetera, you are likely to be an easy kill for a corporation that is looking for just those easy kills, or they wouldn't have decced E-Uni.
Wars are kept going when those spending the money on it are getting the fun (ie combat or tears) they wanted. Every kill they get increases the probability of war renewal. It's just about possible that you are quick and clever enough to avoid getting popped, yes, but as a teaching corporation EU have to assume the majority of their members are clueless and/or dumb. And if they're not, then you would be better helping them fight than missioning, so catch 22.
Tax only affects bounty payouts and mission rewards anyway. If you were determined to keep missioning you can still make money from mission bonuses, loot and salvage, which at l1/l2 is likely to be more than half the value anyway.
And finally, as I pointed out but you seem to have missed, you could not have joined EU when the tax rate was 100%, even if you wanted to. It's too likely you are a spy.
All of this is fairly standard across lots of corporations, not just EU. There's lots of good reasons to dislike EU, but this is far from the best one.
