Allow me to start with saying that this isn't a whine
I do love PVP action in this game and I don't really mind gate camping of chokepoints or otherwise in non-empire space. I don't mind pirate encounters and so forth but I do have a problem with empire 0.4 gate gankers.
Every now and then CCP balances the game and brings much needed "tranquillity" which lasts for certain period of time before players learn how to use that balance to their own advantage.
Right now flavour of the month seems to be Amarr battleships and laser weapons, there is of course nothing wrong with that but perhaps they are a bit over powered? Without talking about guns themselves let me get to the point I am trying to make about empire ganking.
It's pretty rough on new players. Several new friends of mine recently were ganked in various 0.4 systems by different people set up pretty much the same way. It's typically Apoc, with tachs boosted by some support vessel for great locking times and nice tracking, med slots stuffed with tracking computers II and they stay at about 140-150km from the gate ganking everything that moves. I fell as a victim to one of them due to a eve bug that wouldn't let my pod jump through the gate or warp, but I did loose my MWDed frigate in less than 8 seconds and I find that rather alarming.
I am all in favour for piracy in empire and props go to real pirates like Tank or numerous CA corps that raid low security empire "hot spots" - but I do mind gate ganking.
Especially considering that newbies have little in the way of defence. You'll need a battle ship at minimum plus experience to take gate ganker out, something new players donĘt have. Or even experienced players - are we just pushing everybody into battleships? God forbid fly any other ship type?
Even smaller ships donĘt stand a chance, despite CCPs attempts to nerf tracking so that frigates would not be killed, at 150km tracking plays very little importance since they always seem to hit.
Perhaps it's a good time to review weapons again. Or perhaps it's a good time to review sentry range - but something should be done to balance this issue.

we don't need any more nerfs, tho that would be the simplest solution (thus CCP is so prone to going for it)
The problem you speak of could be nicely resolved by having proper news and information communication systems. When someone discovers a gank camp, the victims could report it, it would make the local news or whatever, and smart players who check the news could be made aware of what's going on in the world. That cannot be effectively done with current communication systems.. but it's a hell of a lot better solution than any nerfs and balance changes!
I could try design such a system for fun.. if people supported it :)

I think sentry guns should have 999999999999999 km range and do 9999 damage a shot. I have been known to gate gank too with some success, but only legitimate targets (CA) so what goes around does come around. I'm sorry that certain corps feel that you are fair game even though you've prolly never done any wrong to anyone.

pa1n i noticed that too, always the people who talk all tough and **** have been here for like a month, remember seeing some guy posting about training all his advanced learning skills the day they came out cuz he got some books, even tho his char was barely like 20 days old.... anyhoo... nah .4 and below has never been safe, you just gotta look out, be glad you didnt lose anything big like a battleship... back when people could just tank/dampen/support the ganker, or the sentry... oh and btw IM GANNA GANK JOO IN .4!!!11oneeleven
