Well on the 1st 4 shots i want to get some med/short range, maybe only in my 1st 3 slots but its mostly about what on teh back...
I trained up med Project guns and on teh back of my Thorax i have a 740mm Howitzer, and i think its opt range is 17km/20kmish well a "normal hit" does around 150ish but a "perfect" hit can reach up to 320.
I also have med Hyb skill so im wondering, should i drop off my long range gun and toss nothing but "insert shortrange hybrid gun here" or what?
Also what Medium hybrids should i be looking at getting? Thanks.

well, i'm not quite sure what you're trying to ask/say but as for guns for the Thorax, try either 250mm rails or some hybrid blasters

Dump the howies and get some 250mm rails if you want to go medium range. They have higher optimal range and I'm pretty sure that with Thorax's bonuses you do much more damage with the 250mm. They do use more cpu though but I don't think I have ever had major trouble fitting 4 on my thorax. They use quite a bit of power but actually less than the howies so you will be saving some grid there.
I haven't used 720mm howies in a while but even back then I didn't like the tracking and I can't imagine it has improved.
The other option is to put the second thorax bonus to some good use and put on a 10mn mwd and get close with some blasters. __________ Capacitor research |

Only one thing to say really; rate of fire.
Sure 720s might hit for 300, but you can order pizza, make a cup of tea and take a shower waiting for the next shot to go off. I'd rather have 4 hits at 100 than one at 300.
Stick to 250mm rails or blasters. If you really want to try something different, then fit light blasters or frig sized pulse lasers then armour tank as much as possible.

Realistic optimal on a 720mm with middling skills and Titanium Sabot rounds is about 40k or so... considerably higher if you use Carbonized Lead, and considerably lower if you use EMP or Phased Plasma.
Phased Plasma hits REALLY hard - much harder than Sabot - however, it's very expensive as it's made out of Zydrine, but the damage is well worth it, especially if you're running 4 720mm's.

I'm still trying to find the time to try out the 5 blasters/mwd/armour tank approach.
5 modal ions with AM, an accom repairer and a couple of cap rechargers should take care of it.
Is this really practical and/or feasible for fighting high-end cruiser rats with escort? I've been using the long range approach up to now.
Also, which drones? I figure mediums to get rid of the frigates, while hitting the cruiser with the blasters.

Sorry about the horrible spelling/english of my 1st post, was very rushed and in the middle of Trig =D
But thanks so far for the info. This is what i did with it last night...
Hi: 4x Light Neutron Blasters 1 is a named one 1x Medium Named Neutron Blaster
Mid: 1x 10 After burner, *best i can get ATM* 1x Named Medium Sheild Booster 1x Cap Booster
Low: 3x PowerGrid Controls 1x named 1600mm Plating 1x Named Medium Armor repair.
The Light blasters are using Lead Charges, and the Heavy is using Anti-Matters. I really need to train skills for the Warp Drive but that must come later.
See anything else i need to tweak? Thank in advance and sorry again for my 1st post hehe

With the Thorax's MWD cap bonus, it really is worth it to fit an MWD on it, especially when going for a blasterax. Let alone when using the new Heavy Assault Thorax.
I would, myself, go for a set of five Ions, 10mn MWD (preferably named), Cap Recharger II and a warp scrambler (7.5km). The lowslots would feature any required numbers of CPU and reactor cores to make the fitting work, and then slam a cap relay, and a Tracking Enhancer II. If anything was left, a damage mod (tech2) would be good. This sort of a setup, used wisely, would prove decent in PvP. And don't give me the "cruisers are useless in PvP" crap, it's *******s. Most people just don't bother with learning how to use them.
