Piracy is part of the game, and I'm cool with it. My friends and I ran a mission down to Hysera (0.4) and knew we might get company. When pirates showed up, we weren't surprised or even annoyed - it's part of the game. I was in a mission ship in lowsec, a risk I decided to take, so I'm not complaining.
DeathWarrior and Alchemos just shot me. Monkey M3n demanded 50m in ransom for my Drake, which I was glad for - I figure it's a fair price for a well fit and rigged Drake. I pay it, he says "I meant 50b" and kills me anyway. Keep in mind I didn't beg for ransom - he convo'd me.
I wouldn't recommend paying them if they try to ransom you. Some of you pirate corps have honor, and I salute you for at least being men and women of your word. Apparently these guys aren't. |

On a more threatening level...my wife was tickling my feet while I screamed at her, "NO this is serious internetz spaceships!" I have now been threatend with severe tickling later on this evening which is a far more serious threat.
Good luck with that business plan of yours.

What a reasonable post. If they were locals we would shot them for you. It is so annoying how few people will pay ransoms due to stories like this. Then again we mostly ransom pods after blowing their ship up so I guess they arn't feeling sociable.

You know this "honour" of which you speak, you do know it was invented by hollywood don't you?
Pirates never were decent honourable people. They were thieves and murderers. Anybody who honours a ransom isn't a pirate at all.
Maybe in 300 years we'll be role playing as paedophiles but with some curious "honour" system invented by hollywood to make us appear cute and cuddly like the fluffy androgenous prat that gets to play the loveable one in "Paedos Of The Catholic Church" or whatever.

Edited by: Sidus Isaacs on 06/08/2009 14:09:29 Not "honoring" ransomes has nothing to do with honor at all.
Its all about profit and reputation, if you get known not to honor them, nobody bothers to pay you.
If you are known to let them go if you get paied (if you ask for ransome, this is an importent point, don't be all hurt if he shoots you for fun and never asks for ransome) you will likly be able to pull of other ransomes and make isk in the future.
So pirates that ask for isk then kill anyways will likly fail more in the end. A bit of a profit there and then, but not long term. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't get why ransoms are ever paid. You're trusting the word of someone whose actions are anything but honourable. There's no obligation and TBH they'll usually make more from the ransom than from looting the wreck (the ship loss is a complete loss to the pirate) so by paying you're only encouraging future ransoming by increasing the pirate's ISK income.
That said, if ever manage to hold you to ransom, I'll honour it 100% and it is totally in your best interests to pay up.
