It's true I'm canceling my subscription for several months maybe forever, and here is exactly why!
1.) EVE online lacks too much content! It really sucks warping past so many planets, yet you can't land on any of them, they could've made it like freelancer where you can land in a capital city and from there just rock up to the pub. Very basic point click system, It dosnt even need anything special. I know there is a walking mod on the way but that Is a light year from now and itll take months if not years to properly solidify. Its just moving too slow, by that time Star Trek Online will be out, and man will that whipe out at least 1/4 of EVE's players
When I first played EVE I had missed that Freelancer like vibe, yeah you can argue THIS GAME IS NOT FREELANCER, but so many things in that game were done right! and i think EVE is just picking up on that now and incorporating it into its gameplay.
If I were the lead game designer appointed today and I had to do something aside from advertisement to get people to play this game, id first hire allot of people and make sure every system in the game has allot of unique content, id add content, LOADS of content. The ability not just to walk around space stations, but land on planets, maybe just 1 little area that resembles the idea behind the make of the planet. I really recommend for anyone that has not played Freelancer, to please try it! its a old game but compared to this, it has at least 5 times as much content!
Moral of this whole thing CONTENT! CONTENT, CONTENT, CONTENT, EVE IS LACKING CONTENT BADLY! Get some creative minds in to refurbish the systems we already have and add interesting twists and things. Allow people to buy planets or moons, maybe a corp home world? and design a system to cator for the planets resources and trading. Man this is basic stuff, the nerds who design this game are just lazy. There are a million reasons people won't take action and give excuses but there is only 1 reason that matters why they should. Its simple, EVE online's customers are numbered and precious. From my personal experience petitions are not really haerd. If it were up to me they would not even be in existence. We don't need petitions, we just need a better game!
2.) EVE online skill training! I will make this short and sweet, skill training should always be on 100%. It takes too long for new players to get into this game, that after a few months of playing, they just quit. Skill training takes far too long, and at the end of the day allot of my friends who I got into EVE were asking themselves, what am i paying for? I mean really? to sit here for hours mining or doing extremely repetitive missions, In extremely repetitive solar systems, or oh.. to train skills.. because some skills take days even weeks to train! Its just pointless, and horribly boring! and its making people leave in the hundreds if not thousands.
That needs to change, from a marketing prospective, I'm telling you now, this game will fall through the second STO comes out! There is no way it can compete if it does not take some drastic steps fast.
3.) Customization! One of the most simple things EVE online can do immediately is add a ship customization feature, where we can paint the ships or color them certain ways to distinguish one from the other. If people are having bandwidth issues, then there should be a feature to simply standardize all ships to the original templates. Simple, I mean what the F is the problem with adding such a basic feature which will benefit everyone.
One of my friends who also left this game was telling me how he liked the way the Carcal looked, but the Carcal mark 2 was really ugly, and he couldn't imagine flying that around! So he ended up buying a Rokh.
CUSTOMIZATION, get a few of your nerds to look it up and work on it, bring in a artist to give ideas! Hire creative minds!
4.) Ship Sub systems! We should be able to target subsystems on ships
I've run out of space
Goodbye all

1.) EVE online lacks too much content!
It's a roleplaying game. If there isn't enough content for you, then MAKE YOUR OWN.
Originally by: Sir Krassy
2.) EVE online skill training!
We have a class-less, level-less system that requires no "levelling-up" and also explains why our clones have perfect copies of our memories. I would not wish to play a game where I was a level 76 Caldari Prospector and had to scan 400 more rocks for veldspar to become level 77. The current system rewards length of service rather than hours in-game.

3.) Customization!
Mathematics. Really.
Simply allowing a choice of TWO pre-set colour schemes for your ship will almost DOUBLE the size of the game. Why? Because you've DOUBLED the number of ship models. Or at the least had an affect along those lines. How about real-time updates on-demand? Totally customisable skins and you'll need infinite bandwidth; jump into Jita or into a fleet battle and you'll spend the next week downloading everyone's paint-jobs. And that's not including the server having to suddenly vomit-up your bad-ass paint-job around to a thousand other pilots.

Originally by: Asinar 1.) EVE online lacks too much content!
They're working on it. Planetary interaction and the Shantytown Initiative/Winsaucables are on the drawing board, with the former adding limited control of areas on planets and the latter allowing players to create deadspace complexes.
Originally by: Asinar by that time Star Trek Online will be out, and man will that whipe out at least 1/4 of EVE's players
Haha, what?
Originally by: Asinar If I were the lead game designer ... aside from advertisement ... hire allot of people ... every system in the game has allot of unique content
So, let's recap. You have no idea what game designers do, how to handle the resources of a game development company, or how to set achievable targets. There are about 7500 systems in EVE - you want to design unique content for each one? You obviously have no idea what sort of resources would be needed for anything like that, or how much it would cost you. (hint: you wouldn't profit from it for several years)
Originally by: Asinar Get some creative minds in to refurbish the systems we already have and add interesting twists and things.
It's much easier (and infinitely more cost-effective) to create tools for the players to do this themselves (which I hope they get around to soon). I agree that EVE is lacking in content in certain areas, but there's also a reason why CCP can't fill everything.
Originally by: Asinar Man this is basic stuff, the nerds who design this game are just lazy.

Originally by: Asinar From my personal experience petitions are not really haerd. If it were up to me they would not even be in existence. We don't need petitions, we just need a better game!
If this is the sort of crap you clog up the petition system with, you are wasting the time of the game masters, and thus ruining the game for everyone else.
Originally by: Asinar 2.) EVE online skill training! I will make this short and sweet, skill training should always be on 100%.
You misunderstand. When you start you train skills twice as fast as is standard, so you train at 200%. I realize it's easy to argue for a constant 100% bonus, because it sounds logical, but in reality it's not.
Originally by: Asinar It takes too long for new players to get into this game, that after a few months of playing, they just quit.
You have to plan your skills so that they are useful in both short-term and long-term. It's not difficult to specialize early on and be effective in PVP.
Originally by: Asinar to sit here for hours mining or doing extremely repetitive missions
You don't have to run missions at all, or mine. They are fairly simple ways to make money, but not the only ones. And if you play EVE for the PVE you are definitely missing out on most of the game.
Originally by: Asinar That needs to change, from a marketing prospective, I'm telling you now, this game will fall through the second STO comes out! There is no way it can compete if it does not take some drastic steps fast.
I doubt you know nothing about marketing. Or prospecting.

I'd love to see this, definitely. I assume you are an expert in the graphics architecture of the Trinity Engine, seeing as you think it's such a simple addition. I absolutely want more ship customization, but it would require much of the graphics engine to be completely restructured - that's time and money, lots of it.
Originally by: Asinar 4.) Ship Sub systems!
Yeah, I want this too, and I'm sure it's on the drawing board, with lots of game designers tossing out ideas and techs crying. -----

In concept EVE is a sandboxed PVP game. In other words it is up to the players to create content within the game rules, i.e. by challenging for resources and space. Yes, EVE had PVE content, but this is only a small part of what the game has to offer. Get involved in an active corp and you will find out what EVE is about.
Alternatively, enjoy STO if it leaves beta.

STO looks so incredibly poor I don't even know where to start with it.
I've been following it's development out of morbid curiosity and honestly it is a dog egg. It will be a terrible game loved only by stupid people and die hard trekkies.
If you think it is in any way competition you haven't really "got" EVE. It's OK though, EVE is not for everyone. Have fun in WoW or whatever you end up playing.

Edited by: Whitehound on 06/08/2009 16:43:57 Why are such threads being moved into OOPE?
Clearly, the moderators do take notice of these. But is this not a violation of rule #5 - ranting?
I could support the OP and argue that he does have a point and that the game is not instantly lovable as such. I can however say exactly the same about life, and therefore argue that the OP is suicidal!
What is the point of having this thread here?! The moderators are lacking a serious amount of cool when they move such threads into OOPE. --

Too little content? Get a job.
I've still not even scratched the surface after 4 years and I've done trading, mission running, fleet PVP, small gang PVP, manufacture, research, run a POS and run a corporation. Then again, I can only play for about 20-30 hours a week, tops.

You can customize your ship plenty of ways, you have rigs, you have high slots, you have mid slots, you have low slots, and most ships even have a drone bay. Its up to you to not use a cookie cutter setup if you want customization, who cares about not having custom paint schemes. If not being able to have a different paint scheme is such a big issue for you then Eve is not the game for you.

Lol@startrek taking 1/4 of the people in eve.
Honestly, while those changes seem great on the surface, and I agree with the walking on planets/stations(they are working on this), there are things I would rather the staff release some other things before such luxuries.
Personally, I look for playability over cool looking graphics(paint jobs) any day.
