I am very new at video making in Eve. Is it an accepted practice to use clips from Eve trailers and teasers to put into my project? I also have my own Fraps video and I mix between the two for the project.
I am using PowerDirector 7 for making the actual video and uploaded a small test clip of my video to Youtube just to see how my encoding/compression was working and they actually deleted or omitted the sound/music from it. I used an instrumental song from a well known group. I am assuming that was a mistake on my part? That was extremely depressing because that music track went perfect with my project and I spent a lot of time on the perfect timing, effects, and transitions.
Where do people get these nice sounding music pieces for their projects?
Final question: I am using my PD7 to make a .avi output video which I then compress with VirtualDub and make a .mkv output. I do them in segments as I am learning. Why all the 'blocky' looking output? I got the VLC Player and they look pretty good until I upload a test video to YouTube and they (some of them) look all blocky and distorted.
Thanks.

Youtube recodes your footage to reduce the size the file takes, that also costs you quality. I'd recomend using DamageDealer.com instead (it still does it, but it's not _that_ bad). At least he doesn't remove audio of your clips
As far as I'm concerned, using footage from EvE trailers etc is acceptable as long as you don't do like _someone_ did and just slapped some text on it and claimed he had created teh whole damn thing. Also CCP say that as long as you don't make profit off of it, you can use pretty much everything they have afaik.
Also, .avi or .mkv doesn't really matter. The container can be whatever you want, just try and have a h264 codec (or something equal to it) and you're fine.

For Youtube, you must encode it correctly to a very well known format and keep the resolutions and framerates exact to get any quality. For EVE videos on Youtube you should always aim for HD videos on youtube and make sure you don't use copyrighted sound, even if it's under 30 seconds. The formats for Youtube are avi wmv mpeg. You must also ensure you have it at 1280x720 resolution at 30fps for the quality good enough for EVE Videos.
Of course other sites that specifically host EVE videos will support better formats and better resolutions. ------------------------------------- Read my bio ingame for tips on how to live and not be called nasty names by me. |

Thanks for the feedback and the tips.
I have since done a bit more 'encoding' testing and have gotten a finished 3 minute test video that is absolutely remarkable. I can't believe the outcome of this video. And I didn't even look at it in HD yet. Same video as before and YouTube cut the soundtrack again. Darn them.
I have a long way to go with making more Fraps recordings and finishing the rest of the segments then putting them all together. I am, unfortunately, a bit of a perfectionist and don't want to put a project on a site unless it is as good as it can possibly be. And this one looks as good as the Eve trailers themselves with the professionals doing it. Sorry, just happy that all my work so far has not been wasted to poor quality resulting from the transition from my computer to YouTube. I am surprised to see such quality on YouTube. BTW, this was a 7.9 GB .avi file that was reduced to a 35 MB .mkv file (never even heard of a .mkv file extension before yesterday) with VirtualDub and it is 1024x768. I used ZERO compression this time str8 from my PD7 software to create the .avi and there was ZERO 'blocky' stuff.
*** What is the other site(s) where you can upload Eve videos and keep your sound in it? ***
I have a sort of 'disclaimer' in the very beginning of my video stating that I used Eve trailers and teasers along with my own Fraps stuff.
I can see the need for an additional hard drive like real soon. Wow, this stuff really takes room.
Thanks and please let me know of that site for Eve videos. I know there is an Eve portion on YouTube but what's the use if they disable my sound? And some of that sound was music I have the rights to use from within my software program. What a bunch of knuckleheads. .
