keep hearing a lot of good stuff about the taranis and the crow but dont really hear too much about the others...I appreciate that pilot skills and training time are both factors but Im curious about which interceptor will provide the most 'bang for buck' as I really dont want to train up more than 2races ships/weapons...
I have fought a crow in a rifter and beaten him up pretty bad as I ran and just kept shooting :) but this was definitely more down to his inexperience than my superior skills.....I would imagine that the claw would do very well against the crow as long as I could keep the range and not get webbed......but using autocannon I would imagine I would be visiting the hospital - is this right?
Have seen some crusader in action also and I would imagine these are great ships - but how do they fare against crow/taranis?
Am I right in thinking that the crow has the greatest versatility? can imagine it is very effective against cruisers and also good tackler for bs (without having to refit), where the taranis with blaster would have to be too close (at least for my liking) and the same with claw with autos, is the crusader the best inbetween?
I can tackle with the best of them but I really want to train inty for solo pvp/small group hunting and want a damage dealing ship that can toe to toe with another inty and not go home in a bodybag all the time...however, I dont just want to train the 'flavour of the month inty' - really just want to train intys with my eyes open and my ears to the ground on the +/- of each intys strengths and weaknesses against other ships.
Atm as I am minmater and enjoy the rifter I am leaning towards the claw (closely followed by crusader)with its nice explosive damage - hoping they fix/tweak arti but am I just kidding myself and wasting money or is it good enough to put up a fight against his brethren? I really hate running but always nice to have a chance of actually winning..bleh, Im rambling now...any experienced inty pilots able to shed some light for me pls?

The problem is with ensuring the kill. If the fight gets inside of the 10/7.5km needed to web/scram then taranis beats all; nothing else can match it's damage.
So if you want to beat the taranis, you need to stay outside of 10km (maybe more thanks to evil faction mods). So now if you want to make sure you get the kill, you need a 20km scram. getting 20km scram + long range damage + faster than the enemy so that you dictate range needs really good skills to do without running out of cap.
If you can pull all that off, then the crusader comes out on top, but it's far from easy.

i suppose it depends on preference i fly the crow and it does nice damage at medium range but can also be used close range (Rockets) and so is versatile..
I feel that the uber inty for close range combat would be the taranis(i'd like to try one with T2 blasters some say they can match an apoc for damage output) the only problem with close range is your likely to take a hit from a smartbomb and be wtfpwned.
The minie intys doo look nice (like orithopters in Dune) and i like the thought of the extra midslot the stilleto has..
Amarr ones only have 2 midslots so you'd be hardpressed to mwd, web and scrable your foe, but the ammo is 'free' and they have oodles of cap
i guess really there is no 'best' inty as otherwise everyone would be flying it, just different ships have there plusses and minuses

Taranis against bships = bad
webby and SB will be the death of you. Of course nos and drones too, but those apply to all ceptors.

Taranis; Best short range inty bar none. The damage that blasters do is crazy and they alos have great tracking. However, rails are not all that great, so every taranis pilot fits up with blasters save for some special occatsions. So against a taranis you need to keep the distance to be able to come close to beating it.
Crow: Easiest inty to work with, due to the fact that you have no need for tracking, and no pilot skills are needed to hiot your target. Makes a great long range fighter as well as an ok short range one as well. However it is out classed by dedicated short range fighters. Most other intys can kill a crow that has wonderer in to close before said crow can launch its second volly of missile. You really need a fight to last 10+ seconds to kill any thing with a crow, which means you need to stay away from those nasty short range set ups everyone likes to use.
Claw Nice ship, actually the best inty IMO, just the guns it uses are crap. Autocannons do nice damage, however they are out classed by blasters of ALL sizes. It is kinnda gimped by the fact that it only has 2 mid slots, but ushally you cna work around it. Cruisers ushally don't need to be webbed only scrambled, and frigs ushally die before they can even think of running. Again nice ship, great stats, and slot lay out, just projectiles are wtfpwnd by every outher weapon system. Flying a claw requires some skill and some luck, it can beat any inty out there, just it requires some luck.
Stilleto Ushally not used for solo pvp, and mostly as a group support ship, but it does deserve mention anyways. IMO, if the target is known before hand this is the best inty in the game tobe in. Have a race specific jammer, web, scrambler and you can beat any frig you can lock. I have also tried this with a pair of multi specs. You can't run them for more then once cycle, but very often after being jammed in a frig people won't try to lock you 5 seconds later. You'll either kill him with out him fireing a shot or you'll get owned big time. Others have tried long range and a sensor damp and claimed it worked, though I havn't tryed it yet.
I can not comment on the ammar frigs, I havn't flown them (I havn't flown a crow either though BTW) nor do I have any idea how to set up an ammar ship. Rummur has it that they are in fact good ships and are really underrated.

Edited by: Duke Karas on 07/10/2004 16:32:18 Crows are darn good against other frigs/inties
The light missile dmg is awesome, but the ship MUST close to web range.
Tactic is to dogfight for a little bit, staying out of web range flinging missiles at the other guy. The missiles follow the other guy around in space, even tho he is most likely out running them. Then, dart in and web. Once webbed, the 'cloud o missiles' all hit almost at the same time.
Only thing to consider, the Crow is a slow intie. Other inties are faster, and if they don't want to be webbed, they won't be.

The Malediction has three. The Crusader only has two, the Crusader is a nifty ceptor, can do quite a bit of damage

problem i see with all inties is ammo.
you can shoot forever with a crusader and never worry once about having to get back to base to restock your pile of selected ammo.
crusader with a skills has over 525 armor and hull hitpoints without armoring, it is by all rights the best tanker of all the inties.
used it for all lvl 3 missions a this point except the "stop the theif mission." mine has four heavy missle chucking rogues. being they always lock at same time and launch at same time as well so their first couple volleys which are slow but all hit at same time......could proove very deadly
problem is for PvP it needs to scrifice some recharge for the warp scrambler or webby.
i been using the ab 2 to help keep the sig low. if you encounter a gun toten frig.....the small sig allows for a lot more glancing shots but has trouble running from missles although i have found a way to "dodge" missles with manual piloting of it. missles simply can't corner fast and timing is everything.
using the tech 2 small armor repairer is a must and adds a ton of armor hitpoints sustainable but get repair systems to 5 really really hels.
it tanks well against lights & rockets, heavie missles can pose a problem, cruise missles.....just split.
there is a caracal commander mission i do that normally used 3 heavy launchers, he does not launch all at once which proves challenging but manageable
i find sacrificing any web or scrambler for recharge rate is worth it in the long run, yes people can get away but hopefully your dealing damage better than they are dealin with it and they realize a bit too late.
also noticing tech two guns use a considerable amount more power to activate.
I prefer the med pulse lasers for crusader but the tech 2 pulses use like 4 times the activation cost......they will burn up your armor repairing ability bad.
1 volley of tech 2 pulse is same as 4 volleys of medium particle streams or med modualted pulses energy wise. and when you think that each volley is about 2 seconds.........that is a hugh consumption of power just to keep shooting. that is comparing 4 shots to 16 shots for the break even point in energy used......has nothing to do with time it takes just activation costs
4 med modulate pulses
1mn ab 2/ eutectic or any named recharger
micro aux core/ small repairer 2/ named cap relay/ (optional) heat sink 2, tracking link 2, adaptiv nano membrand 2.
the last low slot can vary.
dmage mod and rate of fire increase to deal more offense, tracking enhancer to be more precise with more range also gets some good wrecking shots, the nano turns you a bit more defense orientated and makes a big big difference in how your armor deals with damage.
also came up with a dual heat sink 2 set up that i call the ganka crusader. just like the tru ganka geddon tho.....it has no defense but a damage mod of 7.7 and just under 2 sec fire rate with my fighter pilot.
it's biggest downfall is that you gotta drop any kinda pvp devices to get good recharge. get it up over 3.0 every second and you will be very happy with how long your battles can go.
i think most would be surprised of the durability of that ship
my current high wrecking shot is with the particles and is 216 hp damage........fear one of those every volley

for inty v inty, i'd take my taranis. for inty vs cruisers, indys and rats i'd take my crow for inty vs BS i'd take my taranis, since it just has so much raw damage potential, but tbh its gonna be hard work in any inty.

id agree with that cept for cruiser prefer the dual web taranis and BS in packs the crow ( because can sswitch ammo to any kind of damage) ----------------------------------------------

Personally I like my Malediction a lot. It may not do the most damage or be the flashiest but with it's 3-3-3 setup for slots I can fit it to do just about anything I want, plus it just looks good :)
