So far i have just been mining, but would like to try my ship in combat also, but i cant find anything that i could blow up.

check a 0.8 or lower system and warp into teh roid belts there. Rats appear in smallest and weakest amounts in 0.8 and get progressivly harder towards 0.1. The real mofo's are found in 0.0 but you dont wanna go against those yet.

thanks i just got my ship blew appart at 0.5 didnt know these were harder than like 0.9, but atleast i know now where to find these :)

Hi ! :)
I found some by asking my agent if he had any news & he mentioned something about pirates active in the area, also got the area bookmarked for me.
I have been there a few times & the pirates are easy to take down, you get some loot & 2000 isk every time you kill one.
I am using a high calibre rail gun too.

Scholes: that's why they call it agent missions. They're not out there at random, only for when someone gets that specific mission
