A friend and I are planning on building a POS in wh-space. I'm specializing in mining and production, he's specializing in combat and scanning. I use Gallente ships, and he uses Minmatar. Which skills should we get? What kind of ships should we be using? We're still relatively new to eve, with just over a month of playtime each, so we're trying to figure out every skill we would need to pull this off. We're well aware that it could take a long time to acquire the skills.

POS's are infact very easy to get in terms of skills. Most modules take only Anchoring 1 to set up, while others need Lv 3. However, you'll need to protect your investment, so Starbase Defence Management 4-5 (prereq Anchoring 5) is very important; it dictates how many turrets a player can control.
Other than that, make sure both of you train up to transports, or at least train up Industry 5.

A couple of things to keep in mind.
1. Always have someone at your POS who can scan. If the Wormhole closes while your scanning character is on the wrong side of it, you've just lost your POS, more or less forever (unless you're really lucky)
2. If you're in a WH that will always have a high security exit (Class 1), I would try and keep at least 30 days of fuel at the POS. If you're not in one of those WH's, keep 45 - 60 days.
3. Guns. Expect your POS to get shot at and set up accordingly. --Vel

To deal with this you need RR skills for Shields, Armor and Hull.
/and you'll be hating the person who shot you up by the time you finish.
I'd also say Electronics V followed by cloaking is pretty vital since when you have an industrial full of fuel heading to your hole it's nice to be able to keep an eye on the entrance whilst safely cloaked.
