Hey guys.. So I was doing the L4 mission, Intercept the Saboteurs. It was early in the morning, and I didn't really bother to check mission details. Anyway, I needed to look 40 units of viral agent. I didn't do this, and I left for work. I just warped back to the mission location, and there's nothing there. Am I boned for completing this mission? I see there's some viral agent on the market, but nowhere near what I need.

For situations like this there are a number of options for you:
1) Accept that you have lost the mission item and cancel the mission. You will lose standing, but (in gameplay terms) you lost the agent's stuff so what do you expect?
2) Buy the viral agent on the market and hand it in. There used to be a number of services offered in the Sell forum which provided mission items... at a cost
3) Try and get the same mission on another character or with an agent / corp / faction you are not fussed about and use the viral agent from that mission to close the original. You would still have to cancel the new mission and take the standing hit
4) Scan down someone doing the same mission and steal the viral agent from their mission.
5) File a stuck petition. If you get a friendly GM they may reset the mission for you. I really don't recommend this as an valid option, but I know others have tried this before.

try to wait after downtime see if you can kill the ships again so you can get the viral agent . If not, petition it to CCP, Im pretty sure they will help you like restart the mission

If the objective in the mission description is marked as complete then the ships won't respawn. I think with this mission killing the last rat drops the viral agent and marks the mission as done (pending delivery).

There is usually a fair stock of "Confiscated Viral Agent" on the market in Dodixie.
