Well, thats because at its core, Windows 7 is Vista repackaged and the bloat cut out. Vista was the beta test for Windows 7.
- How to kill interceptors: Zip down your fly and release. After about 10 orbits your stream just might hit him. Or a multi webbed Rapier should slow him down enough that you can drop #2 on him. |

It gets the award for product most improved during beta testing then. ________________________________________________ For changes to Minmatar Battleships click here (Now with added summary!) |

Edited by: Kata Dakini on 15/08/2009 23:14:52 I've been using 7 as my main OS on my home machine, as well as my EEE 1000he netbook since February. I have had zero problems with it other than some issues with software compatibility (which are inherently the fault of the programs I'm trying to run). Many of the compatibility issues can be worked around as well.
With XP, I could run two EVE clients, in 7 I regularly run three with only a slight decrease in performance.
I pre-ordered the standard edition a month ago or so from newegg for $50, even though my current install will function for another year. Also, from what I have read, you will be allowed to install and run 7 on up to three machines.
-oh, suppose I should mention that the pre order pricing period has ended, sorry if you missed it. read more /.
For more enjoyment and greater efficiency, consumption is being standardized.

Pretty awesome tbh, I get better performance in games out of it than XP, dunno if that's down to newer/better drivers or general improvements though. Been using it since before the RC came out and haven't went back to XP since. Zero problems, even with the fact it's a beta lol __________________

I had some problems with some DOS stuff once, but dosbox cleared that up pretty quickly. Something about 16 bit stuff not working on 64 bit OS :p

I was actually surprised on how well Win7 worked. I've never liked Vista, it probably didn't help by deleting my 1Tb media drives content.(Which Win XP restored btw!).

So does this mean that Windows 7 doesn't have that nasty built in DRM content?

The pertinent question is can you still disable the integrity check?

Microsoft is just too disappointing, and charges too much for the privilege of being disappointed. Is there are reason to choose it over a Linux OS anymore? I Windows 7 really that good?

Software support? By support I mean people who actually write drivers, programs, and utilities that actually work. Nothing against Linux, but you need to be even more of a computer nerd to use it. The OS requires quite a bit of knowledge to operate properly. Its not point and click like Windows. Most drivers are not actually made by the companies that make the hardware, but by independent programmers who volunteer their time to write them. Those drivers that are made by the company who manufactures the hardware is second priority. They come out much later and are not as important to update and fix as the Windows drivers.
You could always go with Mac. Although you'd still have to dual boot XP/W7 OS to use anything other then graphics editing programs and the very few games that work on a Mac OS.

Good point I always forget about the essentail drivers. Sigh...
I could never go with a Mac, I've had plenty of dealings with them and I'd say the same thing about them as I do Windows. Except they charge even more money for the privilage of being disappointed.

Win7 looks good, and I'd like to use it, but there's no way I'm giving Microsoft any of my money. They overcharge, they practice anti-competitive behaviour, they don't listen to customers unless they ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO, they want Microsoft to be in every aspect of your life, all the while finding innovative ways to stop you using aspects of your own computer (while making you pay for it).
I dream of the day something comes to kill Windows. The only real reason I haven't switched fully to Linux is because of games, so hopefully Onlive on linux will enable me to finally get rid of windows. Hopefully also Chrome OS will make a dent. -omg-

Not a chance, Chrome OS is linux variant browser-cum-glorified operating system for netbooks and notebooks. You'd have to be some sort of idiot to use it on anything bigger.

I know that. What I meant was, I hope it becomes a viable alternative for enough people so that it can chip away at Microsoft's dominance of the market. Or that it eventually kills windows, one day, after evolving to match it. -omg-

TBH its going to be many many many many many years before anything beats MS they just have too much market dominance for anything else to make a viable dent.

I thought Vista users were going to get a free upgrade to Windows 7 in compensation for how **** Vista was? Looks like you have to buy it off MS.

There was a company which was working on gaming through your browser. Fortunately Eve was on their list of games, the main down side to this is bandwidth restrictions IPS deal out.
If companies started witting good games on Linux, M$ would die at quite a rate.

And what are those very little, portable computers that have annihilated desktop PC sales in numbers recently? Not sure on the exact numbers but it's obvious that desktop sales have been declining due to more usable laptops and more recently throw-away netbooks.

Does windows 7 bring back the old sound recorder (one from win95 though xp) or does it still have that useless one that was included in Vista?

Starting to regret not waiting for 7 to come out on my laptop now. It's probably not worth the upgrade until I get a new computer.

It can be done in certain countries. I've just upgraded from Windows XP to Vista Ultimate so I can start using a 64bit OS, and at ú165 I only bought it because of this deal from Amazon; otherwise I would have waited until Windows 7 is released.

I believe Microsoft are offering a discount for people who have 'recently' bought a Vista comp, not sure of the time frame. I was lucky to buy from a supplier who will give the upgrade free when 7 is released.
My concern is that there is no XP mode in Window's 7. Anyone confirm/deny this?
