Hello,
After a little inspiration, I have discovered that in under a week, I can get into a battleship and fit it with smartbombs.
I thought bringing such a ship to jita 4-4 and making a video of the proceedings would be a nice little treat that people would enjoy.
Alas, someone told me that doing so would most certainly crash the server and get me banned. Can there be any truth to this? Please tell me it isn't so!

EDIT: The only possible way you could get in trouble is, if you use a character to suicide people and then recycle it and create a new alt to do it again. The correct way is to grind your security rating back up and then do it again .

With very few exceptions, if it's in the game you can do it. The only things that spring to mind are avoiding CONCORD, and anything which is wilfully explotiing a bug in the game.
Blowing people up in Jita is perfectly legal as long as you face the in-game consequences (i.e. getting blown into pieces and taking a huge security hit).

That was actually my plan. :( Not that I would make this a weekly occurance, but I thought sacrificing a week of training for a lolworty event would be worth it. I would still bio the character, but I wouldn't be recycling the character and doing it every week.
Originally by: Destination SkillQueue EDIT: Actually what I think the someone was talking about is this part of the EULA:
"You may not take any action that imposes an unreasonable or disproportionately large load on the System."
I gather it is there to prevent intentionally inducing lag for lolz/gameplay advantage. I don't think smartbombing some people outside Jita falls into this category. If your intention is blowing 10k shuttles infront of Jita 4-4, that might be another story. Anyway you can petition for an answer, if what you intend is closer to the 10k shuttle scenario.
It was that idea that the person was trying to convey, but I thought that rule was for people who are initiating lag in order to turn the tide of battles. I'd be creating a moment of lag when I let off the bombs, but after the concord arrived, things would settle down again. (maybe not so much in local though) While I known there is the high probability of me taking out a frig with valuable cargo, I don't think I'll last long enough to get more than one shot off with the bombs, so anyone who can take 2000 damage would survive.

I do believe it is banworthy.
While simply setting off a few smartbombs in high sec isn't a problem, doing so in Jita, especially at IV-4 could very well create one.
Here's why: every time you harm someone in high sec who isn't a valid target a whole bunch of Concord ships spawn. If you harm one of those ships, even more spawn.
Now, given the population density of Jita, especially at IV-4, you're likely going to spawn an ungodly amount of Concord. Also given the number of players in Jita and all the things they usually, particularly with the market, there's already a lot of strain put on the server. Adding countless numbers of Concord will likely push this over the breaking point and cause the node to fail.
Since Concord will kill you anyway, and the node will die as you do it, there's no way you can gain a profit from looting all the juicy wrecks, the only intent CCP will see is to kill the node and disrupt the game, i.e. griefing. At that point they're fully within their right to ban you.
Note that these rules were put in place when Jita was on a less-robust node and it was much easier to do. But since the number of people in Jita grows with the power of the node, it's probably just as easy to bring it down now as it was then.
You're welcome to see if this is still true, but I wouldn't risk my account on it if I wanted to continue to play.

I think I'll make a petition and see what the answer is. I'll let you all know what they say.

As F'nog pointed out, you would likely cause one hell off lag and maybe even crash the node.
This bit from the EULAmight apply then:
7. Conduct A. Specifically Restricted Conduct Your continued access to the System and license to play the Game is subject to proper conduct. Without limiting CCP's rights to control the Game environment, and the conduct of the players within that environment, CCP prohibits the following practices that CCP has determined detract from the overall user experience of the users playing the Game: 1. You may not take any action that imposes an unreasonable or disproportionately large load on the System. .......

Not at all a bad dream, just one with consequences you may not like.

Probably the safest option.
If the powers that be allow it, have fun causing mass carnage.

Don't bank on a GM response being the final word, none of them seem to agree on what's allowed or not.
On another note, how do you like your pods in the morning? |

The docking range of the 4-4 stn is huge. So huge that you have to be well over 50km away from the undock spot before you can actaully set the smart bombs off.
When we did it (about 15 of us smartbombing the Perimeter gate) we killed some stuff, spawned a lot of concord and then got told by a GM it would be better if we didn't do that again.

This has been done a few times in the past, but I dont know if they ever got banned for it.
The best example that I witnessed was a chap that asked in local "why is there an empty CNR floating about outside" and as the pods all piled out of 4-4 he let the SB's go.
Twas father amusing...

That wasn't the time Jita glowed so huge on the starmap (ships destroyed in the past hour) that it practically swallowed the rest of the map, was it?

No, thats was another occasion and involved a large number of shuttles, a really large number. I used to have a screen shot of the star map with the ships killed but alas I cant seem to locate it now.
It was good, a massive red blob dominated the map.

Yeah, I have been told by C&P that jita is designed so that you can't smartbomb the exit easily. So its either the perimeter gate, or go to another trade system with more of a kick out station.
I think the main concern is if the concord spawn is big enough, it would crash the server. If that happens, the ban hammer will probably come down, especially since it would be on a toon created specifically for the purpose and not a main. However, Jita's server infrastructure has improved by leaps and bounds, so this may be an interesting stress test for CCP.

I assume you were not going to do it on the toon 'Griefmonger' anyway? I mean use a name like 'ILoveCCPDevs' or something.

It isnt' the single guy disco dancing that would tickle the jita node, but rather the hundreds of concord spawning while 1000+ people are trading and playing .01 isk war with each other would all come down on the jita node like a **** from heaven.

Creating a character specifically for this may easily be banworthy. Doing it with your main is not, from what I've seen from CCP. Also, I thought they had changed Concord behavior so that it didn't create spans per aggressed ship, but per aggressor, in which case it wouldn't add much lag anyway.
And its been done at least once in the past, some time ago. Be cool to see again though.

Now I just need a video recording program. Anyone know of a good free one. The fraps trial verison only lets you record 30 seconds.
