As i talk to different people in the game i'm picking up an attitude from quite a few players that is pretty bad. As somebody new to eve i was hoping to see more teamwork and people working together but what i'm finding is go away u noob your not worth the crap on the bottom of my shoes because im an uber l33t xxxxx million sp player and your not worthy of even talking to me. Surely this is a team game ? or am i mistaken ? i know eve means everybody v everybody but it does'nt give anyone the license to be abusive and rude.Oh and before anyone says "take ur crying ass back to wow" i didnt play wow but after playing here i might do lol. I can't see that this is gonna help the game in anyway whatsoever. Great game just a pity some people want to ruin it.

Which channels is this in? The only people I've ever seen overt hostility towards are the ones who quite clearly have made no effort to figure things out for themselves, type like an idiot, act like they know everything and/or get angry when they don't get instant responses. Sensible questions from sensible people almost always get answered sensibly in my experience.
Also, don't take anything you see in Rookie Chat at all seriously, it's mostly split between people starting alts who think they have the right to abuse people for daring to be new, and people who can't even manage to work out how to close the useless Rookie Chat tab and ask questions in noobcorp chat.

It all depend on your attitude and on the channel your in, also avoid the forum at all costs usually. Get talking to a group of people that are nice guys and you'll eventually find somewhere you fit in and enjoy.

This is a team game, but it's us vs everyone else. You say you get it, but you obviously don't. Everyone not in our team is treated as a hostile. That means you mr new player/alt spy from our enemies. The game also rewards thinking people and those with the will to achieve things. Bad things happen to everyone, but you are expected to get up and learn from them. People who whine or can't accept losses and hardship or think they are entitled to something are despised and told to **** off in various different ways. You should also not forget, that there are jerks in every game and EVE is not an exception.
PS. I've found personally, that people who get treated like **** usually have said or done something to warrant such a reaction.

Being new also I have not really seen or noticed this to the point like you make it sound. Yeah in rookie chat I noticed the occasional moron but over all people have been real helpful so far. I stay in the newbie corp channel though as it seems to be more helpful than rookie chat. Also I would try looking answers up first to what may seem like basic questions. The tutorials are also very good and have helped quiet a bit. Point is you have ********s everywhere including where you work and in games. Its how you deal with it that matters. Also being as we play with people on 1 server from all around the world, different cultures speak and act differently so what you may see as rude others may think they are being polite.

Edited by: THE L0CK on 17/08/2009 17:19:47 I know how you feel. I'm just a simple explorer who scans out and goes to sites of old storyline battles and start cleaning up wrecks and stuff that's just laying around and then other people show up and scream about how I'm stealing and stuff and I'm like 'what are you talking about, I was here first and this was just laying around'.
Then they threaten to go get a ship to blow up my defenseless exploration craft, say bad things about my mother, and threaten to put a bounty on me. I just don't understand why people have to grief me so much when all I'm trying to do is explore.

And take your stupid noob self back to WoW if you are gonna ask stupid questions like that ---- a reply which adds nothing to a thread or results in a thread being bumped with no new discussion worthy content is considered spam and as such warrants a forum ban |

          well the problem is here:
  A) newbie writes a rant or something stupid while proving his ignorance -> newbie is being flamed -> newbie whines that the community is rude and ragequits.
  B) newbie asks a question without whines or rants and proves he has at least some intelligence -> newbie gets serious responses and tips -> newbie is happy and thinks the community is cool?

You're right, the community is exactly like that. At least on the forums. Understand that the EVE forums are infested with every known breed of Internet troll as well as a significant number of people who just don't know when to shut up. But don't let that discourage you too much! The EVE community as a whole is actually quite an interesting mix, and there are a lot of friendly and helpful people out there who go out of their way to be team players and assist other people.
If you haven't already, join a corp. You'll find that some of the 0.0 corp are better suited for more experienced players and they may or may not let you in. But there are many others that will be happy to have you. And there are some very fine low-sec and high-sec corp as well that can really help put you on the path to achieving your goals in EVE, whatever those may be.
The combativeness and belligerent attitude you see on display on the forums and in chat is just part of EVE's character. It definitely can be off-putting at times, however, if you stick with it you'll eventually learn to navigate that. There are a couple places on the forum that are generally good for nothing except watching people make fools of themselves. But there is also a ton of useful information here as well. If you want more information and less flaming, stay away from General Discussion, Crime & Punishment, and CAOD. The rest of the forums are pretty much like any other game forum on the Web.
EVE is a great game so don't let the brain-dead drive you away from it. Just learn to be smarter than they are. If, after reading what I've just written, you still feel EVE is too harsh, then it's probably fair to say there's a good chance you won't like it. Many players have a love-hate relationship with EVE, so you're not alone. Join a corp and make some friends and that will make a world of difference.

Whom are you asking for help and how?
I generally find EVE is very supportive and helpful to new players provided they approach things with the right kind of attitude.
Things that are kind of an instant turn off for people are begging, whining, rudeness, hostility when help is offered etc.
I'm not gonna claim everyone will be helpful but generally people in EVE are no more hostile than any other game. It's nothing to do with the PVP nature of EVE either. People happily gave me pointers after violencing my boat and I do the same. Hell I even reimburse people's loss if they're obviously a newb and I know I'm not the only person who does this.
Be polite, act like you haven't hit your head on something, show some smarts and initiative and you'll probably get a pretty good response from a lot of people.
Also the forums aren't rude and hostile. They just take a proactive and robust approach to maintaining community standards.
