Nobody wants paradiseGǪ Nobody wants the rules of its freedom and conformation of its philosophy. Human nature in essence is the pursuit of free will. To do what we wish accept what comes thereafter. Even the religious icons of old couldnGÇÖt handle its requirements. Adam and Eve, born into a place only those could dream of. A land of everything, all they needed to do was follow some simple rules. But no. The price was too high. We seek knowledge; itGÇÖs what motivates our very progression as a species. For in the complacency of paradise, we are forced to be content with no freedom. No freedom to discover and explore. To sit idly by and enjoy the achievements of others. To not learn for yourself but be joyful with the knowledge given to you.. I donGÇÖt want this paradise. Regimes rise and fall and all have their own depictions of perfection. TheyGÇÖll make their rules and enforce their convictions. Creating martyrs of those who dare to oppose their opinions. I refuse to live in your wonderland, you attempt and societal perfection. I prefer the chaos of reality, the freedom of choice; Where I can kill a man one day and die the next. I prefer the anarchy of existence. The never ending pandemonium of my existence..

So you prefer to kill and be killed? Rather then exploring in unison and cooperation? |

ManGÇÖs unique reward, however, is that while animals survive by adjusting themselves to their background, man survives by adjusting his background to himself. -Ayn Rand
Civilization is the progress toward a society of privacy. The savageGÇÖs whole existence is public, ruled by the laws of his tribe. Civilization is the process of setting man free from men. -Ayn Rand
But, on the other hand:
No man is an island, Entire of itself. Each is a piece of the continent, A part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less. As well as if a promontory were. As well as if a manor of thine own Or of thine friend's were. Each man's death diminishes me, For I am involved in mankind. Therefore, send not to know For whom the bell tolls, It tolls for thee. -John Donne |

Privacy is information. Information is power and wealth. It's odd that Rand would believe that privacy would remain "sacred" in a capitalistic society.

Yep, it looks like she didn't see where all of that civilization was going to lead. Didn't anticipate the Information Age, with Facebook-level mining of people's data on interests, buying habits, etc. Personally I kind of think she chose to ignore a few things that didn't support her point. I mean, The Fountainhead was written in 1943, when Adolf, Josef and Benito were already showing where modernism can lead to. |

Few can define it, but I'll throw some knowledge your way.
Your existence is controlled by two needs; physical and psychological.
When the ability to satisfy both needs fails, you become disatisfied with your existence.
Ergo, the key decisions in your life revolve around what physical or psychological needs you have to sacrifice.
When you meet someone who has this balance equalised, they are happy and we associate this with words like 'grounded' 'balanced' 'down to earth'.
Conversly, when someone has unresolved psychological needs, we associate this with words/phrases like 'head in the clouds' 'daydreamer' 'escapist' as they live their life in exile of reality.
Apropos, the definition of paradise is unlimited satisfaction of both sets of needs, as this would remove all decision making.
