Hey, more than likely a continuation of the bored thing but just wondering if anyone out here knows any decent free* MMO's that you play or heard were real good. Sadly my last MMO I found and Downloaded had a lovely virus on it, and had a good time getting rid of it, so I'm alittle cautious about just googling and installing. ________________________________________________

Edited by: Bestofworst Worstofbest on 18/08/2009 07:51:58 More than likely just a fix and not a long term thing.
Edit: Always thought with getting together with someone and pulling a Goons on the game.. for no reason.. probably cause it's a free game

Edited by: Cing Liberdanis on 18/08/2009 08:08:17 Personally ive played a stupid amount of free mmos in my quest to kill boredom. Unfortunately there arent very many good ones. It does depend on what you are looking for cause there are alot of different types of games that seem to call themselves "mmo" nowadays.

Well the last MMO I played was a cheesey asian "LOOK AT MANY EXPLOSIONS FOR JUST PUNCHING THE DUDE IN THE FACE"
I wish to avoid those. ________________________________________________

Well, id recommend Battleforge its somehow thrown into the MMO section. You could also try Runes Of Magic which is an ok WoW clone if your into that type of thing.
I use Onrpg to find these games but the vast majority of the games on there are just utter crap.
Hope this helped :P

I did the whole Battleforge thing and never got into it. Don't get me wrong, I like RTS, but EA just gives me this weird aftertaste to any game. ________________________________________________

I agree but in terms of free "mmo" games its probably one of the better made ones.

I've tried many times to find a decent MMO, sadly there are none really. Eve seems to be it, despite it's faults. And by it I mean the top teir best. Which of course makes those faults all the more grateing but whatever.
Given the plethora of MMO's that are out there it is very disappointing. They tend to follow the same mould on the core mechanics and then try to differentiate on content. If you can find a game without levels, HP, or mana and energy bars let me know. IF you can find a game that doesn't use EXP then also let me know. Seriously, MMO's without these things would be worth looking into and I'm interested.
Personally I'm waiting on the next release of Dwarf Fortress which isn't an MMO but its so good it doesn't have to be.

I also digged free realms for awhile, but it got alittle meh.
And too be honest, Runescape has changed . I'm surprised at how much it changed in looks and usage. ________________________________________________

I'm waiting for SWTOR personally, it just looks real promising. And I'm still just awed by Runescapes changed. ________________________________________________

I've played Rapplez on and off since their open beta and it's a cool game if you like to grind and also Perfect World is good if you get in with one of the guilds there that do land grabs. Also Shaiya was fun and it is actually the first free MMO that I have seen that actually has a decent story progression in it. SCHALAC HAS SPOKEN |

Edited by: Bestofworst Worstofbest on 18/08/2009 09:02:20 ok so the first two games the above poster mentioned I need to check out, I'm gonna DL Dungeon Runners and give it a spin, watched a few videos at it reminds me of a cross between Diablo 1 and WC III, so I'm gonna give it a try.
Edit: Bling gnomes are fail, btw. That's just weird. ________________________________________________

Was having fun on dungeon runners, was ok but a big grind. Figured it would get fun with a lot of people or if they had PvP. But someone told me they were making it members only in their next patch (which was meant for today) ________________________________________________

MMOS wern't always like that.
I played 2 before EVE:
Darkspace was basically an arcadey version of EVE where you just had Prestige (basically EXP) but all that did was let you fly bigger ships, and this was very much a game where being bigger just made you a target as much as anything, so everyone could be useful. It was lots of fun but sadly the devs made stupid decision after stupid decision which made the game boring, and lots of people quit
Mankind was a huuuuuuuuuuuuge cutthroat MMO-RTS in a single persistant universe that was really good for a while, but again ruined by bad management. Much harsher than EVE since 100% of your stuff was vulnerable at all times, so some people would login to find everything they had built over the last 3 months in ruins, but it was fun for a bit.
Then WoW came out and became like the standard

WoW was only the end-result of a process started by Everquest (or maybe it started even before Everquest). ______________________________________________ -My respect can not be won, only lost. It's given freely and only grudgingly withdrawn. |

Because Autoassault was awful?
I played it through the beta and the first month but despite that it was a great idea I just couldn't bring myself to continue playing. Autoassault was basically the opening areas, lvl 70 PvP and then a whole lot of awful. ______________________________________________ -My respect can not be won, only lost. That was mine, but it had so much potential and the amount I did play was so fun. I ended up quiting because the lack of other players and lack of direction more than anything. ________________________________________________

You could still install guild wars off the net, you'd just have a lot of patching to do
