Hi
some of my friends have been scammend on contracts, so here is my little idea that would prevent 99% of contracts scam.
First you could make a five minute timer which holds the items and the money so you can deny the the contract if something is not as it supposed to be.
If this is to much work to implement make a button on contracts called check contract that tells you actuually what really happens and tells you in detail what you pay and what you get.
If this would be more obvious no1 would fall for scamming contracts and I know some corp members who did fall for a Want To Buy contract where you lose even the item and the money.
My two cents Miko Oni

Wait..what.
Isn't that what we have now?
Cost, Offered items, Requested items.

Hmm
IMHO no
It is not enough or less people would fall for scammers with Want To Buy or Loan contracts where you lose money.

Actually it is enough.
On EACH contract it clearly states:
Doesn't that show what happens step by step?
Cost and offered shows money change.
Offered items shows what you gain
Required items shows what you need.
How hard can it be? ------------------------------------- Read my bio ingame for tips on how to live and not be called nasty names by me. |

Considering how much you can earn from scamming, i would say that for idiots there will never be enought ;p Do not discuss moderation in your signature. Zymurgist |

It is pointless since a quote i love very much.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity and I'm not sure about the former. ------------------------------------- Read my bio ingame for tips on how to live and not be called nasty names by me. |

Edited by: Spud Mackenzie on 18/08/2009 17:01:29 Apparently what we need is the little Paperclip guy from MS Office?
Maybe have Aura replaced with a 3D avatar of Barney?
Or maybe Contracts should be written in crayon instead?
The only way you will stop people from scamming, is to stop letting yourself get scammed. You are the one pressing the Accept button... they aren't forcing you.
If someone thinks they're creative and cool, by titling their Contract "Rare Gallente Navy Velator", and you're dumb enough to drop 500mil, then you fail at life. You are in fact coming in last place, in the human race.
If someone says "I'm selling a T2 hardener" and the Contract clearly shows the item itself is only T1... DON'T BUY IT!
CCP does not need to hold your hand, and they do not need to save you from yourself.
What we need is a basic IQ test at the login screen. Something to weed out all the idiots before they ever get to their character.
Please do not move or talk. Position your face 1" from the monitor and stare directly into the screen, while we confirm your retinal print. When this scan is completed, and message will appear instructing you to continue logging into EVE.

there is something you fools dont seem to relise
scamming is PART of eve it is part of what makes eve different pretty much all other MMOs forbid scamming eve dfosnt
if you dont like it dont use contracts inface dont play eve atall im sure there is plenty of other MMOs out there where you dont have to wry about reading the contract where you dont have to use your brain Please refrain from editing a moderator's warning. Zymurgist |

I seem to remember that it clearly states the price you are to either pay or receive in the contract along with a confirmation of you desiring the contract. Just as it's been repeated in this thread, and tons of others, if you fall for these simple scams you deserved your isk loss. ---

OP can be happy she never had to buy with the old escrow, wonder what she would come up with then
As it is now very easy to avoid a scam on contracts and the technique is: check before you accept. |
