Edited by: Kva Plexcha on 18/08/2009 23:41:21 Edited by: Kva Plexcha on 18/08/2009 23:38:22 Ok in the Mission and Complexes forum someone posted a question about using a Hyper in missions. Most people seemed to lean towards usuing a Mega, or a Navy Mega, as the far better choice. Problem is for the last 6 months or so I have been using a Hyper in Low/Null exploration plexes with great success (I know this isnt safe hi sec mission). I am willing to take these suggestions and try to fit a Mega, but what I came up with doesnt seem to replace what I can do with the Hyper. As I dont know how to import my setups from EFT, I will try and copy them here.
Hyperion, Guristas Fit
High Slots 7x 425 mm Railgun II's Improved Cloaking Device
Med Slots 5x Cap Recharger II's
Low Slots 3x Kinetic Armour Hardener II's True Sansha Large Armour Repper Gallente Navy Magnetic Field Stabilizer Power Diagnostic II
Drones 10x Hornet II's 5x Vespa II's
Rigs Auxillary Nano Pump I Nanobot Accelerator I Capacitor Control Circuit I
I use Javelin L for Cruisers and Battleships that are 17km - 43km I use Caldari Navy Faction Antimatter for targets between 43km and 63km
DPS is 557, Volley is 2711Cap Stable at 42% Tanks 722 vs Pithi Damage The cloak is because I never travel in low/null without one, this has saved me too many times to count when getting probed out, or travelling. This setup can tank 6/10 Gurista DED plex and Guristas Annex Solo (with careful aggro managment in the Annex)
Angel Fit is big difference
Hyperion, Angel Fit
High Slots 7x Heavy Ion Blaster II's Improved Cloaking Device
Med Slots 4x Cap Recharger II's Heavy Capacitor Booster II w/ Cap Booster 800's
Low Slots 3x Explosive Armour Hardener II's Kinetic Armour Hardener II 2x True Sansha Large Armour Repper
Drones 10x Warrior II's 5x Valkryies II's
Rigs Auxillary Nano Pump I Nanobot Accelerator I Capacitor Control Circuit I
All I use is Caldari Navy Faction Antimatter L This kills most Angel Battleships that have a tendency to orbit me at 10 km, Void L seems to only have a range of around 8km The drones kill all frigs, and most cruisers. The only problem I have is the 30KM+ orbiting Battleships, so I dual box the Angel plexes and use the gank ship to kill the far Battleships. Remember this is low sec so I need to get done as fast as possible to minimize the chance of player interruptions.
DPS is 612, volley is 2465 Tanking DPS is 1421 (sustained) and 1457 (reinforced) against Angel damage (using 69% exp, 22% kin,5% therm, and 4% em). For the most part I cycle the second repper on and off when needed and dont use all the 800's.
I have alot harder time running the Angels 6/10 and equivalents vs the Guristas (maybe switch one of the exp II for a therm II?). I always run the Angels dual boxing ...
With all the experiences I have had with both ships these fits and figures are about the minimum I need to successfully complete the plexes I run.
Here is my proposed Mega fit, but it falls short against Guristas in comparison to the Hyper, as it doesnt give me the needed range nor is cap stable. Megathron, Guristas Fit
High Slots 7x 350 mm Railgun II's Improved Cloaking Device
Med Slots 4x Cap Recharger II's
Low Slots 3x Kinetic Armour Hardener II's 2x Large Armour Repper II's Gallente Navy Magnetic Field Stabilizer Co-Processor II
Drones 10x Hornet II's 5x Vespa II's
Rigs Auxillary Nano Pump I Nanobot Accelerator I Capacitor Control Circuit I
My DPS is 536 but max range is 50km (using CN Antimatter). Most Guristas can orbit between 50 and 60km. Volley is 1972 Tanking DPS is 291 (sustained) and 880 (reinforced) And cap only lasts 1m 38 s. I have about 1000 mw of power left over.
Suggestions are welcome. I have used the Hyperion for 6 months and a

Stupid forums, editing caused me to lose my last sentence, which should read:
Used the Hyperion for 6 months and am very happy, any info is appreciated.

Sensor boosters with range script or signal amplifiers.
Also with range mods you can get mega and hype to about 183km optimal.

And will Spike L still damage a target at 77 km?
Yes if it tracks but you are better off loading t1 ammo for more damage and tracking at that range...

Basicly the Mega is the better ship for something like L4(what usely donŠt need a huge tank) by his tracking bonus(puls ability to fit a drone link). A good Mega fit for PVE will also be a lot more expensive since it is impossible to do with T2(if you want this drone like for extra range during sentry sniping).
In a pure T2 fitting(what would be resonable for you use) a Domi or your Hype will be the better options since it is not possible to get a Mega to a point where it shines with it(3 MFS, Drone Link, high tracking).
Also antimatter is often better than spike, since it donŠt reduces your tracking(what is a huge factor when you want to use 425mm Rails effective).

Thanks for those replies, very very informative.
Having just switched to the Guristas and the 425's after doing the Angels with the blasters I've been pleasantly surprised by the one-volley frig destruction and the 2-3 volley cruiser destruction of the 425's vs not being able to hit anything under a BC effectively with the blasters.
And does the fact that I can hit these ships mean that tracking bonus of the Mega isn't really required?
The reason I didn't include a Navy Mega fit was quite simply I'm not bringing one of those into low/null.
One more question ... suppose I was stupid enough to, can the Navy Mega be insured for its full cost (which from what I have seen is 400 m)?

Well depends, it is basicly like this with rails:
full damage >>> ok damage >>> low damage >>> no damage >>> your ship
So with more tracking you will have a higher damage at close range and next to full damage against even frigs at rail optimal with Antimatter(36km). If for example a cruiser moves into a 15km orbit(like Angels) you will now be in the low damage/no damage range(what nearly makes shooting them with the guns a wast of time). With enught tracking you can even at this ranges deal more like ok Damage(like killing cruisers with 3-4 vollys). It basicly eliminates the situation where you canŠt hit a target(exept a orbiting frig) what saves time and reduces the amount of DPS you will have to tank(since you can shoot them down faster). With Web, 2 TCs and the tracking Bonus the Mega is quite a nice ship, since it can deal his DPS even without moving against any target between 1km and 105km range preaty constant even vs Angels.
As you might have experienced vs guristas that prefere larger orbits the rails do better than vs angels that in general get preaty close. With enugth tracking this becomes far less of an issues so the rails work here fine to. Blasters as weapon is not realy this good for PVE(it is ok for Beltratting where you only have 1 spawn at close range) since by the time you need to get in range/waiting till the NPCs come close you could have allready started shooting with the rails.

Nope, sorry payout for a Navy Mega is the same as for a regular Mega since it is based on the mineral value of the ship. ---- Nerf Tank - Boost Gank!
