Edited by: Steve Thomas on 19/08/2009 18:47:12 sooo I think its time for the wild speculation to hit the MD forums, After all when the Dust hits the fan were going to need to supply the demand for the stuff that the Consol tar. . . er Valued Customers need!
so what do you predict?
will the current Trad good guns be what we ship or will we have new millitary guns and ammo?
Will Existing Drones be used for close air suport or will we need specialised Ground Attack drones.
Will there be real demand for body armor or will power armor be whats hot?
and what about melee weapons.
will we also get specialise troop ships (Cruiser hull, Frigate guns but the ability to drop and suport a fully equiped army?, Drop ships? and so on?)
and will we need to provide food houseing (new POS modules) and entertainment for all of thoes troops???

I have been reading some articles on dust 514 and i found this: "it's linked with EVE Online, CCP's sophisticated science fiction space-trading game."
Heres the article: http://www.pcworld.com/article/170363/gdc_new_ccp_dust_514_console_mmo_to_feed_eve_online.html/

Wtf? They develop a first player shooter MMO game that's linked to Eve Online and is only for console?
Eve Online might grow even more if it had include first player shooter element on station, ships or even planets and they develop it for ****ing console??

I think the industrial aspects of this "Exspansion" if you wanna call it that are fantastic, I hope CCP follows up with some details on how the two economies will fit together.
From my point of view things like weaponry, vehicles etc are going to be finite and we will have to regularly replenish our fighting forces equipment. If they go ahead and allow us to craft that equipment I think its going to work out just great.

That kinda stuff isn't realistic at all.
They're not actually morphing two games to one overlapping entity.
I can say with 98% certainty, that we won't be able to interact directly with DUST at all. Seriously, it's a totally different game, in all forms and aspects.
How do you guys envision, a ship that we fly here and now, to suddenly morph in to a 3D FPS environment and land on a planet to drop off troops?
How do you imagine you fly to a planet and start bombadring people in an FPS environment that EVE isn't built for at all? Eve is an apple, DUST is an orange no you can't have apploranges.
There will be a monetary connection, perhaps a contract related connection as well. The games will communicate through overlapping servers that forward information on changes. You give a contract to DUST players in EVE, DUST players go do their thing in DUST, servers forward contract, isk, and planetary information.
I think we can all quite safely assume EVE players will stay eve players and DUST players will be DUST players. EVE players won't be joining DUST players or the other way around.
Not only is it such a huge undertaking to change a game EVE is now, in to an FPS supporting environment, but you also have to take in to account that DUST isn't, and can't be just a supportive game, it has to be a game that draws players in it's own right.
That means that the gameplay can't rely heavily on EVE-online. The players have to be able to be able to have ease of access to fighting when ever they want, much like any other FPS game out there, they won't want to sit and wait for someone to haul them. They will hit join server and get to killing.
They neither can be dependable on gun or ammo, or air support stuff from EVE online, not only is it way too undependable in the scale that EVE is, but it's also butt ass boring for DUST players.
I say DUST will be DUST, an FPS, and EVE-online will be EVE-online, an spaceflying MMO. So lets not wet our panties here. Too much expectations is only going to let you down in the end. ------ Dare to challenge me? |

This has to be the most sensible comment i've heard about Dust so far. Thats not to say that we dont get to trade in the things Dust players might use, but they certainly wont be reliant on us delivering.

Somehow I doubt they would ever let us do that but it would be awesome. I could see it now, a bunch of punk-ass 14 year olds would be screaming bloody murder on xbox live because we keep WTFBBQSAUCEPWNING them from orbit every time they respawn just for lulz.

Given the nature of lasers, I'd suspect that battery-changes will be just as frequent as anything else (given that you don't have a starship reactor to recharge the capacitor). Also, I suspect that most of the DUST armament will be projectile-based (it just works on those scales, and from a physics standpoint, you run into issues firing lazors in atmosphere, and railguns tend to be big).
I still would love to perform an orbital bombardment, but that's because it's so completely overpowered and god-like to be fitting for a capsuleer.

My best guesses are either a tie back to some obscure date in the lore, or a reference to a moon (Planet V, Moon 14, as pilots are apt to refer to moons and belts in a system).

You land in a station, and then take an elevator down. It is very possible to have the 2 games mix. They already use multiple servers for the the universe. I'm not sure how hard it would be to use more servers to host the planetary fighting, and then it is as easy as using a loading screen to go from space to planetside.
I don't want a CS style FPS, but a first person planetside strategy game would be cool.

Here's a theory: Dust players start out in the employ of the empires, fighting on a set of lowsec planets where there is battle regardless of what Eve players do (though faction warfare would probably be linked to it somehow). Additionally, there would be the option of becoming a mercenary hired and supplied by Eve Players, fighting on planets out in 0.0 space. |

My hypothesis:
CPP creates Dust 514 and works out all the major bugs. They later transfer everything we need to walk around in stations into EVE. We then enjoy walking around in stations without crippling bugs (hopefully) from the start.

If Eve was an apple an orange that means you are comparing Eve to Halo which is two completely different universes. It has been stated I quote "One Universe one war " so obviously it is not going to be completely different.
Also there should be a manufacturing component to Dust as in we most likely will be producing the weapons and equipment which then alliances then purchase from the market or make their own and they can then contract it to the Dust players. Or they will become trade goods which will have a set price. This has been stated when the guy talked about how it is a two way street where Dust will feed info to Eve servers and Eve will send info back to dust Servers. The other reasoning behind it is that we are contracting them isk so they will most likely purchasing weapons which could be manufactured by us or buy plex. Also Eve market can be pretty dependable as if there is an item that can be profited from I am 99.99% sure there will be at least one producer selling it so you should have no worries there.
As for bombarding from space that sounds stupid and probably will not happen but I am not going to take the route that the person I quoted took and state it is not going to happen. As they just released that Dust 514 has been created and what is the "BASIC GENERAL IDEA" behind it. I caps it because out of all links and threads I saw there is no details so let's not assume shall we?
Also forgot whoever asked why it might be called Dust 514. I read that it has to due with the fact that it is called actually Dust 5-14 and it is said that the 5 is the 5 main races in eve and the 14 is the 14 blood lines.
Edit: we won't be able to enter their side of the universe like flying around in the atmosphere of the planet though or hauling troops literally but will not rule out bombardment as of yet. Also edit for spelling.

Basicly, yes. Except hopefully there won't be aimbots.
My theory is based on this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8PDbU0Fl5k
In it it's said that control of planets will be one of the factors in the eve sovereignity system, and Dust players will do the planetside fighting.
