Define large fleets :)
Thrasher does a great job, hell all the Destroyers do. Their power lies in the range and tracking which are infinitely more important than RoF against frigates. AC Thrashers reach about 15km, Arty fits twice that.
Alternately you can use the Assault Launcher Caracal, it has range, hitpoints and damage. Or how about a plain old rupture with 180's .. rig it for tracking and have at it.
Bottomline is that there is no ultimate ship for any purpose (other than Guardians for RR). Everything has options if you look around for them

Edited by: Alsyth on 19/08/2009 22:49:15 Edited by: Alsyth on 19/08/2009 22:47:41 Do you want to snipe them ? Or to hit them when they're near you ? Or both ?
Snipe (>50km) ? Sniping HAC. BC with tracking/optimal mods. Near (10> >40) ? long range Destroyer, cruiser/BC fitted with tracking modules. Very close (<5) ? Short range Destroyer, short range guns and tracking mods fitted cruiser/BC.
All ranges ?
-An Assault Missile Laucher Cerberus. From 0 to 95km you do 240dps (before reduction due to velocity). But the flight time is quite long at very long range.
-A drone boat with drone link augmentor and drone speed module (don't remember the name) with lots of warriors II. Deplacement time of drones is still an issue.
I would personnally prefer the AML Cerberus for its versatility in range, no tracking issue even with a very fast interceptor, can fit a fairly good tank, ability to switch damage to hit your target's worst resistance : it's usually not difficult to figure which one it is. knowing which one is shield or armour tanked, and what are the T2 resistances of each race is useful, and sometimes makes the difference.

Beam-Zealot AML Cerberus/Caracal
Are pretty much the best you can get for large gangs, with the Zealot being more dangerous ar range while being vulnerable to frigates that get on top of it. The Cerb/Cara is utterly lethal to any frigate anywhere in range. Both can also add decent enough firepower to larger targets, which increases their usefulness as you still provide a useful service when all the frigates are dead.
Eagle/Muninn are ok and the Eagle in particular has insane range, but is not generally as deadly as the Zealot or Cerb; frigates themselves not being renowned for fighting at 200km makes the Eagle's ability to do so a nice gimmick rather than a critical feature. Putting the 'irate' into 'Pirate' |
