as a miner nothing takes the wind out of your sails when a asteroid is depleted after an entire cycle and you only get a handfull of ore for that entire load. if your strip miner is smart enough to stop harvesting when your hold is full it should be smart enough to automaticly shut down the module when the asteroid is depleted. this petition is to fix strip miners to automaticly stop their cycles when an asteroid is depleted rather than wasting time mining empty space.

or, you could use an asteroid scanner and learn approximately how much of each ore your strip miner pulls in per minute, and shut it off mid-cycle yourself.
try it, it staves off the bordom. ------ I, for one, welcome our new console overlords! |

The reason the miner does not stop is that it only asks the database at the end of the cycle how much ore is left. As more then one miner or drone or player could be mining the ore there is no way to determine how long the roid will last. The reason its only checked at the end of the cycle is to minimize the load it places on the server.
Also CCP prefer to reward people to are committing effort to an activity. If the mining lasers cut off a semi away form key board player would have the same results as one micro managing there mining. it would also make macro's easier as they would have less wasted cycles as well.
Also the calculation would be done server side so it will eat up more CPU cycles incresing lag. Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congratulated by carebears for the actions. |

It is not smart enough to notice when your hold is full. It do that check only when it tries to put all the minerals of a cycle in.
And it eject the minerals that your cargohold can't accept (in EVE reality it put them back on the asteroid, but the effect is the same, you do the full cycle, you get only what your hold can keep).
Probably it is done for ease of programming and resource management. Only 1 check at the end of the cycle.
