As for 0.0 dewlers that think they know the names - what is the full name of your home system? Not the abrivated name but the full name? Admit it you had to look it up.
I remember lots of home systems I've lived in... 5H-SM2, Q-GQHN, BWF-ZZ, Y-2ANO... Not to mention I know most the systems in wicked creek, especially in the pocket with 4-EFLU, U-HVIX, H6-EYX, 1-7*** something and F-QQ* something.

It's a lot easier to say 0.0 names out loud than some of the funky names in Empire as well.

It's not the same. They name things for whoever discovered them, and many have the same letters at the start because about a dozen guys discovered 75% of whats up there. The numbers are in order too, and not just random.
Not at all true. Only the "stars" which were visible to the naked eye a couple hundred years ago have proper names, sometimes after the people who "discovered" them. Note that I say "stars" because most of the most popular the Messier (sp?) objects are either nebulae or galaxies, like Andromeda, and Orion. The vast multitude of stars, nebulae, clusters, and galaxies are named after the cataloging attempt, particularly the NGC systems. They plotted hundreds or thousands of stellar bodies at a time, so they named them sequentially.
Granted, 0.0 is a little more random, but it basically follows the same course, only this time they randomly generated each system's name as it was "discovered" this time I mean constructed.
