What sould one consider when chosing the location of a corp. headquarters? I have found the system I want to locate in, but what else should I consider?
- Does the selected station matter in any way? - Can I change the location of my HQ if I find something more suitable in the future?

If you're gonna have an office there, keep the monthly cost in mind. If it's in/near a hub it can be very expensive. Moving a jump or two out will get you much cheaper rates.
Make sure station has all the sevices you need in it.
If basing industry out of it, make sure pilots/corp have good npc-faction, to lower refining & market taxes.
You can change your HQ anytime, sure. It doesn't even need to have an office attached (pretty sure).

Thanks. I just submited for registration, and I can see that the money was taken out of my account, but my corp. doesn't show in the list of headquarters. How long does the entire process take?

No idea how long it takes (corp registration), but most processes with delays seem to take effect after the following downtime. |

The "HQ" is just a listing in the corporations list in the station, so basically you want to put the HQ somewhere where recruits can click the button to join. Although, with the recent changes to the recruitment advertisements that CCP has implemented, and since they now allow people to apply to your corp from anywhere, it doesn't matter anymore.
Anyway, the HQ doesn't cost you monthly rent, and doesn't offer office space. You must rent offices separately to have hangars there.
The HQ can be moved whenever you want.

The HQ can be moved to any station where you have an office. Therefore, if you want your HQ to be located in a station where you can't possibly afford an office, such as Jita 4-4, you'll have to create your corporation there.
To move your HQ, rent an office somewhere, and at that station you can "make this my HQ" or something like that.
As for offices, I prefer to locate them at offices where there are medical bay facilities. Corp members can relocate their clones to any corp office, and it's a bad idea to have them locate their clones in stations with no medical bay.

Another thing to keep in mind is where you see your new corporation heading. If you intend to move to lowsec, decide whether or not you will endorse piracy. If so, make sure the HQ/offices are located where Players who are security-status challenged can visit.
On the other hand, if you intend to begin a hi-sec corporation, decide where you want to live. Busy places aren't always the best, your miners will have a hard time finding ore and won't want to travel 4 jumps to stock the corporate hangars. Your missioners will be plagued by salvage ninjas. Not a good recipe for happy corporations.
The nice thing is, you have time to travel and decide where to base, since moving the headquarters is easy. Moving a packed corporation can be a logistics nightmare however. Also travel a few jumps in each direction from the spot you currently picked. Is there a low population system nearby that's just as good? Rent will be much cheaper and your corporation will have more room to breathe without drawing as much attention.

This is on the drawingboard but hasn't been implemented yet. Perhaps it'll be included in the winter expansion. I do hope they'll do it sooner rather than later, since it'd mean I would have to maintain 300 offices anymore :P
