Its the only game that I ever really learned to mod in a way. I even created my own unit pack (other people made the units however) and used up all the weapon ids. Made a map too - slips into nostalgia mode. Great music too.

Homeworld and TA had entirely different game styles. Let us just say that they were both equally awesome in their own regard. It seems to me that Homeworld focused more on tactics than strategy, while TA focused more on strategy than tactics. IE, in homeworld, you ended up micro-managing your fleet but didn't have any easily established battle lines. TA was the opposite - the micromanagement of your forces consisted of telling your forces to throw themselves against your enemy's base. However, the frontlines of combat were clearly drawn by artillery. TA focused more on the use of strategy where the destruction of key units/structures could make or break the game.

Indeed, this is what i noticed from spring.. However i do end up micro managing my units a bit more than you say. Maybe thats why i like small games so much..

Monkeylord AA is a bit on the meh side though. It's also quite easy to spoof with fast, microed units. Just have someone run circles around the monkeylord and it goes all confused :P
But other than that, yeah...ML just rocks due to it's value. "Cheap" + massive destruction = win! ----- Why doesn't anyone ever read the forums before posting? EVE is a game of adaptation and planning. Adapt or die. |

TA or Total Anhilation is the forefather of Supreme Commander, in essence Supreme Commander is the closest we are ever going to get to a TA 2 considering they're made by the same man.

From what I have seen and heard so far of the new supcom2 I'll be calling it Supreme Warzone of Command and Conquer Craft. Its a mish mash of rts ideas all squished into one new production quality oriented game or at least thats the exact words of Taylor. He kept hyping how shiney everything was looking or how many omg uber experimental units will be in the game or isn't it awesome that you can add a barrel extention to you t1 tank and it will instantly upgrade all your built t1 tanks yadda yadda yadda and kept dodging any gameplay questions. Not really looking forward to it tbh if it turns out like I think it will which will be a big beautiful shiney nobrainer game just like all the rest of the popular rts titles out there.

Edited by: Siigari Kitawa on 25/08/2009 12:03:41 My corporation is deeply devoted to playing Total Annihilation whenver we can get enough people together, or even a 2v2 going.
You guys that are really into TA, I STRONGLY suggest you check out this website:
www.ewarzone.com
Download the small client after installing Total Annihilation and updating to the proper 3.1x CC patch. You can actually go here to download all the files you need to play TA:
Click here for TA stuffs (install, files, etc)
Since Total Annihilation's corporation who created the game has gone bankrupt, you can no longer find the game for sale. So you may download the ISO to play it. Note that while I have done research to determine whether or not this is legal, I believe once a company has gone bankrupt they lose the rights to their software and as it is no longer for sale it becomes public domain; Atari will not republish the product. Please correct me if I'm wrong however, and I'll rectify the situation. But for all you owners, this should be a safe bet regardless ;)
There is a readme file in there, so READ IT and follow the instructions and you'll be on your way to playing TA again :D It also includes the WarZone installer and a few maps me and some of my corpmates have created.
Be sure to contact me ingame, or I could start up a channel or mailing list perhaps to get some pople back into TA :D

Got to be meh very quickly. What can I say if you are good, the enemy AI runs away in fear when your ambush fleet arrives. Do that ten time sin a row and it's nearly impossible to finish a game with all the teasing.

Not sure how you would describe supcom as slow paced, seeing how it usually took what, 5-6 min before you had a ghetto-gunship over your head eating your dudes while you where trying to macro like 6-7 different engineers doing different things and also trying to figure out where the other guy was doing junk
But yeah, forged alliance shifted focus from epic massfarms to capping nodes more, somewhat keeping you from hiding in your base under ******-shields and building a zillion mavors |

I like mavors, and shileds :).
Tho, on my old comp about 20 minutes into game time, teh RL vs GameTike ratio was 10:1, due to lag :P. All the games eventually got very long, but it was easier to micro stuff ;) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
