So i just formatted my primary partition and reinstalled since some funky stuff was happening and i suspected a virus. Though i'd share the time it took from Format button to first startup.
19 minutes. 19 Freakin' Minutes. That beats my last XP install by just over 40 mins and i don't even wanna mention Vista.
That is all. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

I epically installed Win7 64bit on saturday installed insanely fast after a few bumps. Damn dvd drive was bad and kept erroring out on install, but nevertheless I got it installed after a friend of mine brought over an extra dvd drive and than 15min later I was installing eve which took forever and a day

Took me a short eternity to get it up and running, seemed to do very little whibuntulst getting to disk selection screen, then it wouldn't find my disk.
For the time it takes to get to the first 'screen', I could have installed ubunbtu, by the time win7 is installed, I could have installed all updates and be doing something productive.
I just don't see how a multi billion pound company can create an OS that takes so long to install, and charges a fair bit can create a slower install OS than a relatively obscure company that gives out a free OS.

Is stupidly fast compared to other Windows installations.
On another note, students (worldwide) can get RTM Windows 7 Professional 32/64-bit for $19 LEGALLY which you can download within ~24 hours. http://www.sevenforums.com/news/21119-windows-7-pro-19-students.html Apparantly it's legit, still waiting for confirmation email though to start download

Orly? In that case it will have even moar memory available for the epic 80x80 maps forged alliance maps I can't play off of the 2 gigs in my current system. Xp is great but the effective 2 gig limit was always a downer.

Yes i'm running Windows 7 Ultimate RTM (64-bit) atm.
Because i know Windows 7 have very good support for SSD drives, then i bought the 120 GB version of this one: OCZ Vertex 120GB SATA II SSD
And here is a pretty good review of the SSD drive: OCZ Vertex 120GB SATA II SSD Review
Here is another good review of the SSD drive: OCZ Vertex 120GB SATA II SSD Review 2
And a 3rd review that is also the last review i'm linking to: OCZ Vertex 120GB SATA II SSD Review 3
I think i installed Windows 7 Ultimate in 8-10 mins on my computer . And that's pretty damn fast. The boot up time on Windows 7 Ultimate is like 30 secs for me.

Think mine installed in like 30 minutes, but I've had zero issues so far and it's running with far less memory footprint than XP on a clean install.

You can but not many people will recommend doing it - you're kinda best to have programs/music/documents on another partition than windows so you can format it without losing all your stuff.
Every machine I've installed it on so far I've never had to download a driver except for graphics drivers (nvidia/ati), so pretty good :) __________________

BX, that build...is it timebombed? Or does it last forever? Did you do a clean install or upgrade? 7600 is the 32-bit one right? And what's the bootloader you're on about -------------

7600 is originally timebombed for one month, i think you can re-arm it though. But there is ways to activate it that probably aren't best talked bout on teh forums or such like. RTM is only "Avaliable" to MSDN and such like, but it was leaked so _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

I have MSDN access thru work but went thru some hassle originally with RC1, followed by a leaked build 7127. I knew the RTM was available but wasn't sure if it was timebombed or not. This one is good till June 2010, I don't fancy upgrading to another timebombed build, so will just wait for the final one I think.
Home Premium is like ú65 on amazon IIRC, I might just pre-order that. Not sure what I'd miss out on without ultimate, but I doubt it's anything worth writing home about. I'm dreading having to reinstall clean again, so am hoping there's a way to do a clever and use the disc to upgrade this build. -------------

I have my computer purposefully set up so that only stuff like Avast/Comodo is on the OS partition. I have a 600gig HDD with an 80gig OS partition, and then a 500ish gig partition where programs like firefox go. Games get split between my 300gig and tb hdd, so i can basically format at will without losing anything of note. (Though i DID forget to back up my goddamn firefox BMs this time :rage:)
If you already have a win7 build the chances are its not worth it to upgrade in build number, it would probably be better off waiting for Home premium in the long run.

Mine took about an hour to install, but that's only because it had to spend the better half of its life removing Vista from its path, and then settling in.
