Originally by: Malcanis Well since the only reason I'm even considering a console is because of Dust I guess I should wait till that launches and gets reviewed.
I highly recommend this avenue. Considering you have no interest in console games I would definately wait to find out which console will run Dust the best. No need to rush on this one. Hell by the time it comes out both of them will probably be very affordable in their relic forms
Slade
Ye, true that. We dont even know that Dust is going to be available next year.
I reckon I'll buy one of those keen little beer fridges instead.

I'd say go for the one with the game library you prefer, if you aren't fussed about console games in general then the PS3 is simply a better console.

Originally by: Iasius Edited by: Iasius on 25/08/2009 20:22:53 I got a PS2 just so i could play Gran Turismo. Likewise i also would get a PS3 just so i could play the next full version on PS3 (Not the trailer version). Also PS3 has a blueray player which i don't have yet though i need to find a way to plug the HDMI connection into my high def PC monitor that only has DVI and VGA connections. But i think i can do it.
they do make HDMI to DVI cables ya know
and well I dunno, my friend was saying ps3 was getting a bunch of good games coming up.
but xbox has halo!
and both are getting price drops

oh and http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/60233 apparently the hardware failures shouldn't be happening so much now.
although I have an around 6 months after launch 360, it just rr'd on me about a month ago now, and got fixed for free out of warranty, so I really have no complaints.

I have all 3 and I can tell you that the PS3 gathers dust most of the time. Not many good games on it that 360 doesn't also have, the online system is subpar to LIVE and for the life of me I just can't get used to parallel thumb sticks for most games. I like the offset design of the Xbox controller better.
The graphics look the same in 1080p to me on both systems, the sound is exactly the same as well. But I know more people with 360 so chances are when I buy games it's for the 360 and to play with friends online. SCHALAC HAS SPOKEN |

If you buy an Xbox, you're giving money to M$ which, in my book, should be punishable by death!

Same goes with the PS3, cause the money goes to Sony, and Sony birthed SOE, which ruined SWG. ________________________________________________

Unfortunately so. The PS3 could have been so much more than it is. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

Except that Sony are even worse.
If I buy a second hand console, which I probably would, neither of them will get a penny.

I'm actually surprised the corporate underworld hasn't jumped on the second hand market yet, "So many people not directly giving us monies!" _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

Edited by: Asuka Smith on 29/08/2009 10:36:00 Edited by: Asuka Smith on 29/08/2009 10:33:29 I would get an XBOX360. It is exceedingly easy to modify it to play burnt games that you bittorrent, and if you post on your local craigslist page you can get it done for $50 on average. For example Arkham Asylum leaked a week ago and I beat it days before it was released. Fallout 3 came out about a month and a half early, as well as Gears of War 2. So basically you can play any game you like for the cost of a DVD and you can get every single game ever released for the console for under $200 in DVD costs, as opposed to $60-70 new on a regular XBOX or PS3.
Also, the latest XBOX architecture has a very low failure rate. The reason for the original XBOX failing so much after launch was because the video ram is located on the bottom of the box, and the heatsinks were held on with X-clamps (AKA tension based, not screws) and so over time inevitably the tension would lessen and the heatsink would lose efficiency until eventually it would fail entirely and you would get a red-ring error.
The new video RAM heatsinks are not only of higher quality but they are screwed in.
EDIT: You still have to pay for xbox live, but you can use your burnt games online and maintain full online features. However be careful going online if you have achievements from games that are not released yet.

And you have about a 50% chance of it suddenly stop working

Originally by: Grez As an owner of both PS3 and 360 Elite, I can confirm that the 360E is by far the most used by anyone in my house. It has the PS3 beat in games, and the graphic differences are literally non-existent.
Plus you get a nice 120GB HD, and HDMI support.
Another plus is that if you have Windows Media Center on ANY of your machines, you can link it to your Xbox 360 to run films and **** over the wireless connection (or wired if you have one). I frequently download episodes and watch them over the 360 (plus, you can plugin an iPod or like and listen to music incredibly easily whilst playing games or other).
It's just the best console for everyday use.
Well as an owner of a PS3 you'd know you can stream films etc through, again Windows media player in the same was as you can the xbox... you can also plug in an ipod to the PS3 too..
You also get blueray with the PS3 which the xbox fails on plus Gran Turismo 5 is due for release sometime this century (hopefully) too.

Edited by: Kappas. on 29/08/2009 17:58:09 All new 360s have HDMI output btw, only difference other than colour between the range is hard drive size.
Also, xbox 360. Despite high failure rates nearly every game out on the PS3 comes out on the xbox, xbox is cheaper to start with + you can mod it to play copies.
Edit: above dude, I wouldn't spend ú300 on a console JUST to play Gran Turismo, which isn't even that great anyway plus with the savings you make with a 360 on price alone you can just buy a blu ray player __________________
