I was just wondering where these people tend to hang around so I can be sure to avoid these places in the future.
Any interesting stories you have would be cool, too.

high-sec
there all over that place =P
a post from another forum:
Quote: Another Can flip story: Was hanging around Avesber or w/e the systems name is in my Rifter, when i scan out a miner/hauler pair. They have a cargo container between them when i warp in, I hit the mwd and pounce on them in under a second.
I throw a can and open theirs. 6k rich plagio, *flip -1*... about 2 minutes go past and their can is still floating there... aprox 6k rich plagio.... *flip -1* .... still no reaction.... I get a private convo request... i accept thinking it's one of the miners going to tell me to F off and how much of a dirty thief i am...
Surprise surprise, it's another nearby miner asking me to do them a favor...apparently she's being harassed by another can flipper in the system and she's willing to pay me 50k trit to get em off her back for a little while. so, wth, I accept and convince the guy to "help" me with these two as they've obviously got help coming.
The other can flipper accepts my request and starts to head over to me, *can gets a 4k veld deposit from the miner...and an instant withdrawal by me* when the miner and hauler finally notice i've been flipping their ore
I look in local and i notice they have another corp mate in system, i back off a bit so when he warps in, i can see what it is before engaging, my "partner" warps in, and i have him grab agro from a nearby wreck.
The new pilot from the miners corp warps in a... *gasp* A BREACHER xD.... he's over 50km away from me, i slowly fly in enough so he'll take a shot at me... he bites and i warp out / get my "partner" to get agro.
I warp back in just as the breacher fires his first shot, we've got double agro, 2 Rifters V 1 breacher.... kinda....
My partner is rigged with an afterburner, while myself and the Breacher are rigged with MWD's.
Myself and the other pilot fly around playing catch the mouse as I try to tackle him as he's wasting missiles that just cant keep up with the speed of the fight.
He's got me set on an orbit. so I begin to manually fly the ship (yes double clicking xD) and manage to get close enough to use my warp scram. He practically stops cold after a good 1-2 minutes of near sustained MWD flight from both him and myself. at this point the fight's over, he's got no ammo left (based on the fact that he stopped shooting entirely) and he's scrammed/webbed. *BOOM* less than 1000 damage on target and he's gone.
I scoop his cargo give him a GF and fly back to his mining partners. as soon as i get close they warp back out.... leaving me, my "partner" and the ore to ourselves...
The local miner had already paid me for my "services" of removing the other can miner so I sent him on his merry way and hauled back the ore for a quick buck...
Warping back into the system I notice that there's a cruiser from the miners corp in the belt that we had just fought in, I warp in to see if it's the same pilot...
Turns out that they called for more backup. As i warped in the cruiser puts a lock on me and 2 other frigs warp in... luckily for me, the corporate aggro timer does not reset during combat... none of them could fire without getting concord intervention... and if they wanted their ore back they would have to fight me at least once, 1v1... and they weren't interested in that xD
So all in all, I received 100k trit (yes she offered 50k but I got her to pay 100k xD), Got to pull out around 12k rich plagio, 4k veld, some T2 fittings, a killmail from a pilot more than a year older then myself, an invitation to a pirate corp, and a bunch of lulz from the aftermath convo's
All in all not a bad 1/2 hr =P

Is a can tipper someone who comes along and puts things into your can as a tip? I don't think thats possible, so your question is moot.

I was about to ask if anyone else read the subject as cow tipping the first time around.. Of course cow tipping in eve is the process of placing bets as to how long it is until we get another post about someone taking all of kow killa's stuff..

Not quite the same, but can tipping, cow tipping, and even can flipping all appeal to the same demographic.

Maybe OP is referring to the act of tipping over a porta-potty while it is occupied. While it can be fun and rewarding, it is not nearly rewarding as receiving a hate-mail from some poor sap that thought his hulks Hobgoblin I's could take out an Ishkur.
I didn't amend it, I added to it. In white type nonetheless. Where is Mitnal when you need him? Signature Locked. Please refrain from amending a moderated warning. Zymurgist |

If you want to avoid can flipping I suggest taking residence in a place with no security status, aka null-sec and wormhole space. Nobody there cares about can flipping. At least, not while you're still able to mine into one.

Find a system in hi-sec with a good number of belts.
Now, check local, is it just you? No? Then congratulations, you've found a system where can flipping is likely to occur.
Try mining in Devoid, sure there's no big trade hubs out there and you'll have to hump all your minerals back up to Amarr for sale, but you'll find plenty of systems with empty locals and little fear of can flipping.

Asteroid belts.
They be dangerous places, avoid them at all costs.

I am a Can Tipper... I always tip the guy that works the can at the club. He's always nice enough to hand me a towel after I was my hands. ---- a reply which adds nothing to a thread or results in a thread being bumped with no new discussion worthy content is considered spam and as such warrants a forum ban |

I would just like to point out that can flipping almost never happens in 0.0, so that is probably the safest spot.
