Ok so my windows live messenger has decided there's a new up date.
I go to install it and it apparently doesn't want to install on my version of windows (xp x64).
However, it won't let me continue to use the version i have, and simply refuses to log on because i HAVE to update, even if the update won't install on my OS.
What to do?
Currently using 8.1, no idea what it wants me to update to. ------

Have you tried downloading the full version from the MS site?

not sure how to help with the install problem but you might want to consider an alternative. its a site called meebo.com, it uses multiple different im services including msn and lets you loig into multiple ones at the same time, it also requires no download ive been using it for several years and it is awesome.

Edited by: SirSpectre on 26/08/2009 16:17:02 Find the MSI of Windows Live 2009. It won't do the fancy install, but it will install! GO to the start menu after it does and it will be there. I did that and I didn't know it installed, but I guess it did, and now I cant find that link again :S

i personally dont like browser-based im clients, problem being that my firefox likes to crash way too often (well, i leave it on all day and all night.. so its bound to do that eventually anyway)

I'm still using the old 8.5 version. :D I hated the way the newest version looked and worked, so I refused to update. I assume in a year or two they'll be all Jihad on my ass and it'll stop working unless I update. But hell, for now I'm happy. :D

they have a small app you can choose to download, its baiscally a notifier and keeps you logged in even in your browser is closed, just click it and it opens meebo in your default browser. also tells you when you get mail

Ok waited a while for the damage to set in with the tech community and then did a google search.
As per usual with xp x64, the software designers have simply made the installer refuse to install, rather than the software actually not working. Just to be ****s about things.
Here's a page with more info. ------
